I wish I could enjoy western cartoons again. I don't know if it's it or me. I hate to be a nostalgiafag or weeb who only watches anime and shuns western cartoons but I often find myself more engaged with it. I still love some older stuff I enjoyed as a kid like Billy and Mandy, MLATR and Dave the Barbarian but nothing new coming from the networks and streaming services except very rare stuff like Primal or Invincible interests me. It's basically when I watch something like Demon Slayer or even ancient lower budget stuff like Gundam 0079 I think "why are western animators so afraid of simply drawing?" It's either super basic designs, puppet rig trash or 3DCG of varying quality.

Why does the movement feel more stiff than an actual HB cartoon?

The dramatic irony here is the original designs were built around limited animation techniques, and now they’re even more simplified to ease further on the animation (and to make things easier for 'artists' who can't actually draw).

The Courage/Scooby Doo crossover is such a bittersweet thing. It looks like harmless fun and would have been something I would have loved as a kid, but it sucks Dilworth has no say in his own creation, especially since he’s been wanting to do more Courage stories for years. I hope they can capture the original feel of the show but from what I’ve seen it looks kind of off.
The Jellystone cartoon was already looking pretty rough but it was seeing the loons working on it that’s really starting to scare me.
The only silver lining is that industry vets like Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken are still around and making new works while Invincible’s success ensures that adult action cartoons are here to stay. Plus we got indies. These are the only things keeping from taking the nostalgia pill or the anime pill.

Say what you want about Hannha Barbera style from the 60s to 80s relying too much on limited animation and rehashed ideas. But at least the character designs looked like some time and effort went into them. And even at their laziest they still cared about the medium of animation and didn't solely focus on the bottom line.
