Seems the trailer dropped on this thread a while back with a prediction that the anti-stalinist message will be mutilated...
....and I am here to confirm from the clip that Seth Rogan plays Napoleon as a pig supremacist who tries to recruit the wholesome vague-socialist chungus original character protagonist pig into the nazi pig pipeline because fuck you fuck you fuck you FUCK YOU
FUCK YOU FUCK YOU
Oh yeah and its also a "well that happened..." comedy movie because
FUCKING FUCK YOU
Yeah, saw the same thing. Came looking to see if I was hallucinating or not.
Changing Animal Farm from a harrowing allegory about the Soviet Revolution, and how the Communist elite will promise to liberate you from your class enemies, only to devolve into authoritarian collectivism and oppress you even harder than your former overlords, into some tired "Trump bad, globohomo good" neoliberal sermon that reinforces the messaging of our own Communist elite, would NOT be the first time Orwell got "localized" for "contemporary audiences".
But it will probably be the most blatant example of butchering and subverting the original message, and I can virtually guarantee that several of the filmfag commies responsible for this one will have, at some point in the past (probably 3rd year of college), bitched over their lattes about how "the CIA's influence over 1954's
Animal Farm subverted the message of the original story by having the animal-citizens rise up against their stable and functional Communist governments, in what was clearly an attempt to justify CIA-backed anti-socialist regime change in Latin America blah blah blah".
Anyone got more predictions?
What I'm wondering about the most is how they'll handle Boxer - the hardworking, socially conservative, bluecollar Englishman that Orwell had a fondness for, whose good nature, stoicism, and strong work-ethic was weaponized against him, resulting in his death and replacement by the cynical sociopathic Commie elite.
It's possible Boxer could be a MAGA Republican whose trusting nature gets him sent the glue factory by the Indian H-1Bs that Elon MuskPig has hire to replace him, but that seems too sympathetic to MAGA and WAY too based. And they definitely won't pull a straight white genocide plot with Boxer being a normal, non-MAGA, politically apathetic horse who gets glue factory'd by Haitians and Guatemalans because, in the minds of Communist technocrats, he's literally just a machine to be used and used and used until broken.
My guess?
-They'll recast him as a Mexican, possibly a burro, and then the pigs will deport him because they're ignorant and hate horses for no reason. "OH NO, we have no horse left to pick the avocados!!!" or something equally silly.
A lot of the subplots are Old Left critiques of capitalism and will be hard to adapt into a shitlib morality play about racism, but you could probably do something like:
- Mollie has body-image issues and must learn to be a feminist girl boss
- Clover learns to read, which turns her woke, and the pigs don't like that cuz they're racist
- Moses is a Christofascist who doesn't like the gay tranny pig (because racism)
- Old Major is a magical negro woman, because why not?
- The dogs get into the Manosphere and there's at least one scene where we know they're evil now, because they do pushups
Or they'll just give up on the sideplots entirely and focus exclusively on Snowball (? I'm guessing the childlike audience stand-in pig in the preview is Snowball?) and his crew of one-dimensionally gay/trans/multiracial animal friends as they band together to stop Orange Napoleon from committing a racism and deporting all the non-pigs.
Also, it's definitely going to have somebody saying "Make Animals Great Again".
