I thought it was time for a nice feel good thread.

I try to volunteer at the food bank every Friday. I also give plasma every two weeks. At Christmas I donate two toys for toys4tots and I want to start sending care packages to soldiers on veteran's day.

One day, I really want to train a seeing eye dog. I have always wanted to since I was little because I read a Barbie book (Yes, a Barbie book, there was a Barbie book club which I was in. It was actually the book where Barbie was an astronaut that really sparked my interest in astronomy.) where Barbie's little sister trains a seeing eye dog.

What are some good things you do, or WANT to do.

I used to volunteer at a hospital transporting patients in wheelchairs. I also volunteered in an ESL classroom for adults and last summer I volunteered with Boys and Girls Club.

I'm trying to volunteer with B&G again and soon I'll start training as a volunteer reading tutor for kids in grades 2-5.

I have been volunteering on a website for people with depression for the last 5 years, while also going through my own stuff. I also used to work as a carer for the elderly, and even did unpaid shifts. As well as looking after my nan, doing her shopping, cooking food for her, making sure she took her meds, and providing personal care. Which then I eneded up volunteering at my nans home, teaching the residents how to make cards, and being around when they had entertainment in the afternoon making teas, serving food, and entertaining and dancing with them. Forgot to mention: At the same time, I made homemade cards and sold them on Ebay, where the money raised went to an anitbullying charity and Age Concern.

I would love to work with children with autism, and as well as providing care for the elderly and helping people who have been abused. As well as make people know about mental health issues, so that people with mental illness don't feel alone. Maybe help the local authorities in providing help, education, and work for people too.

I know this sounds a lot, and a lot of people will think I am lying, all the above is true.

I donated about four bags worth of clothes, jewelery, books and other things to Big Brothers Big Sisters a few months ago because it's one of the few gay friendly, non religious charities near me.
I, some how, came to posses four different kinds of fuzzy, infantile fabrics, so I spent yesterday washing them, plus some spare liner fabric, and am going to make a bunch of baby blankets to donate.

I used to donate blood regularly until I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia.

Last week, I volunteered to be a civilian in a police training exercise. Basically, the police trainees were responding to a simulated shooter situation. I got to pretend that I had been shot.

I think all of us- every day- should strive to be a little bit more understanding, and a little bit more caring about our fellow people than we were yesterday. Take the moment to help. Even if it's something as simple as holding a door open for someone with their arms full, or lifting a heavy thing for an older person, or actually listening to a person that has a different P.O.V. than you do.

Look, I know it's not curing cancer, but if all of us did this every day, then the exponential effects would be incredible.

i don't know if this qualifies, but whenever i'm in a place with a tip jar, i wait until everyone's back is turned to tip. It makes me laugh to know that they think i'm some non-tipping shithead, when really i just floated them a $10. Everybody wins.

I sent Chris several hundred dollars to buy Legos.

I tried to give blood last spring, but I almost passed out right off the bat. I have good iron levels and everything, but my dad can't even do a blood test without fainting, so I must have got that from him.(:_(
I do run half-marathons put on by charity organizations, mostly the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, since that's one that my family really supports.
What I really want to do is inspired by OPL's pleads for Lego sets. This Christmas I want to buy all these awesome sets and donate them to Toys For Tots or a similar organization. I'm thinking of donating my own Legos since I'm 20 and have too many important grown up things to do to play with them but fuck that shit that Legos are awesome.

Heh. I used to volunteer at the food bank too.

Anyway, I occasionally sign some petitions at Change.org. And I also sometimes donate to certain charities. Been a while since I last did that though. I think one of the last ones I did was to help those in Japan after that tsunami a few years back.

I used to volunteer at a couple of hospitals for a last couple of years. I really enjoyed my time at one of the hospitals where I was at the cancer center. I pretty much delivered chemo and blood to the nurses. Sometimes I be organizing things or delivering lunch to the patients. Everyone there were awesome people.

A recent deed that happened was when I saw this person tripped on the ground. A couple of people were helping him out and I noticed that he was bleeding in the head. I told them I be back to get paper towels so he can use them.

One thing I really want to do is to volunteer somewhere that's autism related. I want to help someone with autism and be there for that person since everyone needs supports from time to time.
