I think it's actually way simpler than that - they don't associate the policies they support with the consequences of those policies at all. When they imagine "communism", it's exactly like the current material abundance of 21st century market economies except everybody get everything for free. When they support confiscating guns, they imagine a world of no violence where everyone gets along.

So it's not hypocrisy, at least in the strictest sense. They're fundamentally dim, incurious people who (as I keep harping on about) don't believe in unintended consequences.

The only difference was that the retarded was capable of genuinely regretting their actions.

What I am trying to say is that we are probably both correct as both groups are likely comingled in this population and acting the same way.

Another general observation I have regarding Israel vs Palestine

Only one of these can be true:

1. Israel has a right to exist in its current form
2. Modern Israelis are not the descendants of the original inhabitants of ancient Israel
3. Colonialism and conquest is justified if maintained for long enough

You can see the shifts of behavior clear as day when an election happens, these shifts go on with both mainstream sides. For the right it's almost the same exact goalpost shifts you're talking about, but mirrored and slightly less mentally ill. ("whenever my party wins the US is the best in the world but whenever my party loses omg we're a third world country"). I've noticed on the extreme ends of both spectrums there's often less change, most likely because those people don't consume as much mainstream slop media (although that doesn't necessarily make them better people, look at troons and /pol/tards for example)
