What can you do to monitor suspected child abuse as legally as possible

I've been overhearing a coworker having suspicions that their significant other is abusing their child. Was wondering how to see if there's a good resource to find a person's criminal record or a discrete way of recording evidence that's "above board".

Any tipper, aside from ones DIRECTLY involved with the child/ mandated reporter may call anonymously.
They ask you that when you call in.
When you call you have to have as much information as possible.
1. Age of the child.
2. Full legal name of the parents.
3. What they said.
4. Did you see the child yourself?
5. When did they say it- sit down and take notes to recall details- you do not want to uh um when you are on the phone with them.
6. Evidence? Maybe there is way you can oversee it in the school they go to? Possibly ask to sit for the kid to see what their reaction might be?

Lastly- good luck and I hope you are not trolling as shit like that muddies the waters.
DO NOT call unless you have repeated evidence that you can see, touch, smell, taste or hear. You conjectures are not evidence.

If you are in US, this is a good (free) website to find if a person is a convicted sex offender. For non-sex crimes you will have to find state-specific databases. Some places like NY don't make it public and you will either have to try to dig through publically available prison records, of pay a company that does background checks.
