The Spanish didn't blow up the USS Maine. It was an inside job.
TBH it was probably just an accident. A magazine detonation wasn't uncommon in those days and it happened at least a few times in all navies. It was just convenient to blame it on Spain.

The idea that the US would blow up a brand new warship (rather than say literally any other US civilian ship) to start a war, where said warship would be extremely useful, is pretty silly.

People wanted war just jumped to wild conclusions.

The chemtails conspiracy is dumb. (chemtails is a conspiracy which claims the water vapor trails left behind by air planes, called contrails, are actually government efforts to throw chemicals into the atmosphere to poison people, control the weather, etc).

If the government really wanted to poison the population with chemicals, they'd do it via the water supply. Chemtails would not be efficient due to requiring fuel for planes and potential for being blown away by wind.

Most public water sources in the USA are incredibly polluted. Potable (drinkable), but still not as clean as they should make it. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the CDC have low standards for what they consider "acceptable" amounts of pollutants rather than demand complete cleanliness of water.

EPA's standards:

CDC regulations:

The EPA has a tool to view regulation compliance for utilities and businesses online.

US residents have access to a database of public water source contamination from a non-profit called "Environmental Working Group". On their site, click your state or enter your zipcode to see chemicals in your local water supply.

This is a good list for viewing which states have the cleanest water based on government-released data:
