My family volunteered me to let a super Bri'ish family friend stay with me while shes in burgerland. She teases me for "sounding american" and it got me wondering what us Amerimutts sound like to the rest of the world

Any foreign kiwis who can chime in? I know there's probably a million ask reddit threads about this but I figured you niggers would be actually brutally honest

Idk, I know you live in the freaking desert or whatever the hell, do you have a southern accent or something? Because that's what Brits seem to think sounds quintessentially "American"
There are a ton of different American accents, New York, New Jersey, Boston, Wisconsin, New Orleans, etc. it'll depend on which American we're even talking about.

Anyways if I had to be around a British woman for more than an hour or two I'd probably wind up beating her to death, so I admire your fortitude.

To me, unless it's the southern drawl, you can approximate the more northern American ways of speaking essentially by saying stuff with lots of big open mouth movement, keeping everything "non-throaty".

Try keeping your lips very close together and speaking
Japanese: Very Easy
French: Easy.
German and Dutch: Doable.
Boston accent - impossible.

I feel like northern American English is just more "in the mouth", whereas some languages are much closer to the throat or hissy. So to me the northern american English dialect is like speaking any language while opening your mouth more than necessary.

An Italian made a song about just that very question
I've been looking for that video for years! I had no idea how to search for it though. "Italians sing in pretend english?"
Thank you!!

To answer OP's question. When I played a lot of xbox online, euros sometimes thought I was doing some kind of voice even though I was just speaking normally. To quote one british guy, "You're doing a voice to sound like some kind of Italian mobster!" So apparently, to british ears, a White, blue collar New Orleans accent sounds like a "wiseguy" from a movie.

Midwest Americans are generally chosen as examples to speak English for those around the world as we are said to have the least amount of an accent. That varies obviously but I do think we'd be far easier to understand than the average britfag, of whom I have to use subtitles for because they talk as if they're gargling fairy cum.

I would assume it depends on the region. I grew up and lived most of my adult life in the Pacific Northwest and when I asked a couple non-Americans this same question both of them said people in my area all sound bland, like news anchors. We don’t have the southern drawl, the New England twang or the east coast monosyllabic grunting

I've always found the contrast of the more relaxed sounding English and constantly over the top message quite fascinating.

Like entitled faggots.

But on a more serious note, it depends on where they are from. The only real 'generalized' answer I can give is that the American accent sounds 'nasal' to me. I don't think I've ever met anyone from the regions that have the more outlandish accents like Boo-aaston or New-Yeoowark.
