If I don't know them but they look very kind and non-threatening, I see them as neutral obstacles. In my way, but I can get past them.
If they look like they're nasty cruel fucks, or soulless, or they want my attention, or I don't like them for whatever reason, they are stinky trash things that need to be avoided.
