what happens if someone cheats in a duel? - it's not like there can be a rematch

Most duels weren't to the death, just to the first blood, but in the case someone cheats I guess they are turned into the authorities by the attendants of the opposing party. Though if you had a champion instead of dueling yourself, you could probably get another champion and reschedule.

If you die, have your loved ones avenge you. If you had no loved ones and it ISN'T because you outlived them, maybe cheating was to make sure you stopped being a bastard.

If you live go to shake their hand then punch them in the face.

Why do you think people had a Second?

I’d ask when and where, because in some times and places duels were illegal, and all parties could be arrested.

My only references for duels are fictitious, of course-

Kubrick- Barry Lyndon (film)
Mitchell- Gone With the Wind (book)
Dostoyevsky- The Possessed (book)

I can go into detail with each one if you like lol.
