I'd have right wing authoritarians use me as a bludgeon against leftists even though it was THEM I was critiquing as much as the worker's paradise gone hideously wrong that was the subject of my fiction.

The thread yesterday was a pretty good example. You saw people were making fun of/bitching about black people and your impulse was to step in and act as some kind of aggrieved mediator. That's a pretty solid example of what I'm talking about, spending so much time around Internet racists that you end up becoming anti-racist in response, like some kind of anti-anti-anti-racist.

Yea, I mean, anyone who would disagree with the notion of "ALL BLACK PEOPLE CAN DO CREATIVELY IS THIS" has got to be on eof those.

I'm touchy about that shit, having to deal with circumstances where I have in laws in the actual KKK and the town next to me had a sign saying "Nigger, don't let the sun set on you in <POWERLEVEL NOT HAPPENING>" until a few years ago.

ORRR maybe, stay with me on this, I know it's kinda tough to grasp but maybe I do it because I am and remain someone who realizes human beings are complex beings and I don't usually get down with the "Everyone is this" statements. I slip and fall from this path from time to time, but I try to stay on it.

Did you consider that?

Also, would I remain an internet racist if I didn't hang around them?

See, right now you feel like a heroic intellectual here to enlighten the ignorant peons. You think that realising that individual black people are just as complex and nuanced as individual white people is an amazing revelation and not, you know, so self-evidently true that it doesn't need mentioning.

People talk in generalizations because people in the real world think in terms of groups, not in terms of individuals. We are all aware that people are individuals, but people will inevitably notice patterns within identifiable groups like race and ethnicity. And this applies to every group, not just black people. An example: the stereotype that white people can't handle spicy food. Sure, not every white person is unable to handle spicy food, but it's widely known that white people as a group are less tolerant of spicy food than other groups.

It doesn't matter if you refuse to think in terms of group identity, because everyone else does and will continue to do so no matter how much a "we're all individuals, you shouldn't see colour" ideology is pushed upon them.
