There is like so many amazing anime character designs out there, especially as of recently. (Although modern anime despite producing some of the most amazing designs also sometimes produces some of the shittiest designs too (Usually hypersexualized ones)). I'll share a couple of my favorite ones.
Ryoichi Ikegami made the best character designs to this day.
His shit just looks sooo goood and his chracter ideas are awesome, in theory.
He's got such a command of his craft, I don't care that his stuff is unhinged coomer core and has middle school sped tier stories. Love the guy.
With him, different characters actually have different faces and they emote distinctively, except when they don't.
In general, I think anime is a mistake when faces get too abstract and ihuman, so everything begins looking moe (the tennis ball size eyes cancer).
Why do lazy artists get away with it?

That's some excellent taste my nogger, all about Sanctuary when it comes to Ikegami for me. For me, in no particular order and just a few that come to mind, it's Shirow, Otomo, Hideaki Arai, Hiroaki Samura, Hideo Yamamoto who are top-tier. I like the manga that look more untypical and unique. Everything in OP looks dogshit to me.
