I am not joking, defending the organisation, or anything. I just keep seeing a lot of 'reminders' through social media that Autism Speaks is horrible, but a lot of the accusations come from Autism Speaks wanting to cure autism and not having autistic members instead of affirming autistic people.

They're a sham like PETA where they do more harm than good and essentially just exist for tax write offs.

The whole aspect of curing autism is them promoting stuff like CRSPR gene editing for babies and a bunch of other stuff that's falling too much into actual eugenics. They promote autism as this thing that will ruin the lives of the parents and pretty much just want them to kill the baby. Which is overkill in many circumstances because autism isn't the same as having your organs being born outside your body or Harlequin syndrome, and those people can still live fulfilling lives.

I'm pretty sure they're on the based side of history, saying things like "Autistic people shouldn't exist", and "Autistic children are an incredible drain on parents and family, and do far more harm than good in all structures in which they exist"

Obviously I'm paraphrasing their extremely redpilled views on tards.

Eh those mistakes tend to be short-lived, you have an autistic kid you will be reminded everyday about how shitty you and your partner at making kids everyday till you die. You will find no reprieve from hearing about sonic save a murder-suicide.

They're trying to cure something that has like dozens of assumptions on how it's caused.

Nobody really knows how autism arises as a mutation, although it's being linked to higher than normal testosterone. Girls tend to not show signs and it's something that for the majority affects men. So if you have something like that, it makes screening useless because females could pass the genes on and just be unknowing carriers.

Autism Speaks does a shit job at portraying autism acting like it's a terrible disease that needs to be cured. Autism isn't ideal, it's a downside, that's true; however, it doesn't help to make advertisements exacerbating the negatives of autism. Not all autistic kids are going to ruin their parents' marriage. Not all autistic kids throw tantrums when they go out.

Believe it or not, many autistic people can become functioning members of society with the right care. Even weirdo autistics can do some good; I knew an autistic kid that was addicted to Roblox when he was younger and when we last talked in high school, he was working on electronic circuits for a sign and was doing a good job at it. Einstein was likely on the spectrum too. Therefore, it makes more sense to take this genetic disorder with no known cure and figure out how to work with it and make the most of it. Autism Speaks fails to do that and prefers to fearmonger, which makes them far more retarded than the kids they put in that ad.

sounds pretty based tbh

all birth defects should be treated with abortion

So we should mutilate fetuses and revoke their chance at life just for not being up to standards, even if they could live decently? That's kind of fucked up, especially when you're saying this on an thread about autism - one of the more minor birth defects.

I feel like most people who are against Autism Speaks "finding a cure" message have zero experience with autistic children or adults. That, or their only experience with autistic individuals are the ones that are "weird" and kind of socially stunted, but otherwise normal and able to more or less grow up to functional adults.

If your average person knew what it was like to raise a moderately to severely autistic child, they wouldn't be against finding a cure. It's absolute hell for all involved. Why wouldn't you want to cure something that causes so many problems for both the person with autism and the people who have to care for them?

it makes em unproductive and antisocial. "live decently" is bullshit, reality is they're parasites on society for life.

I never understood the whole "autism spectrum" thing since there could be a 34 y/o Timmy who cannot verbally communicate anything outside of when it's time to watch his favorite cartoon movie for the four thousandth time, and he also cannot stop beating the shit out of his legs, THEN there is 12 y/o Samantha who has autistic superpowers at the piano but may not be able to recognize facial expressions.

With a wide ass range like that, what exactly can be focused on?

When electricity and consumer electronics first started being introduced widespread into many homes int he 1950's, the devices wound up killing a bunch of people early on. It's suspected that this created a genetic bottleneck because the spergs would have survived to procreate because they'd poke around and disassemble the devices to know how they would work.

This also means that boomers and their boomer parents have always been technologically incapable.

And yeah the 1950's had a fuckton of weird electronic shit, like a coffee pot that forcibly ejected it's cord as a means to power it off once it got hot enough. All well and good except the cord was still connected to the wall, which meant the moment it touched a filled sink or water it left the occupants of the home prone to electrocution.

Guys tend to have regrets after cutting their dicks off too, doesn't stop them from grooming others to do it
