A ton of conspiracy theories or news can be quite black pilling. "Bad things are happening and you can't stop or prevent it" is a trend and at some point, you'd need some anchor to keep yourself from going insane. After all, if you learn that thing you did 10 years ago is actually a very nice incubator for super cancer and you will die soon, why bother with anything? Feeding yourself with doompost after doompost can devastate you.
However, I do see many people keep going, claiming they do only to spite those who seek harm upon them. All I have to wonder is... why? From a purely logical standpoint, spite shouldn't actually help you. It's gratifying to see justice done, but it doesn't solve the powerlessness, it doesn't solve whatever shitty situation you might be in, nor does it provide a reason to keep going should you successfully outlive them.
Hence, my question. It's a common enough trend that there must be something to it.
