I spent the last year trying to get my carpentry business off the ground. It was incredibly difficult to get calls and when I did, people were so stingy that there wasn't a single time I could actually charge what I needed in order to make money. There wasn't a single job I made more than $7 an hour on. Even people who were clearly wealthy would try to shaft me on custom work.
The labor was brutal and slow on most jobs because I had to work on my own. Whenever I've tried to charge enough I get shut down. I was very excited when a GC finally contacted me because he liked my work since everyone jas told me that the best position to be in is B2B. I was extremely disappointed when he too was a cheapskate who told me repeatedly that he wanted me to be able to compete with wayfair prices. He said his current guys quality wasnt there (i wonder why).
I've asked others who are already successful in carpentry how they did it and it pretty much seems like they got lucky across the board. I feel completely drained and low energy/motivation after the last year of work and being dirt broke. Now here I am doing door dash to make some cash and it's legitimately better money. What do I do now?

As stated before I have multiple skillsets that compliment each other.

A suggestion.

Why don't you try to look into companies that repair rentals/leases. ? You can pick up additional skills while working there. Consider the economy today there are a lot more rentals now than 5 years ago.

I did this myself and then turnkey my own investment properties when I was younger.

Just a suggestion. and good luck in whatever you do.

Thank you

I’ve seen some people do pretty well by selling tables, artsy carpentry shit.

If you do work for someone they will always be a bunch of niggardly faggots.
If you make a product, and advertise to the right wives, you could charge premiums for those works.
That's kind of what I was thinking. It seems like it would be much easier to just make a product and throw a price on it.

You could get into doing custom work on bulldozers and show it off personally to your cheapskate clients
Lol

I never got being stingy with people doing work for you. If they do it well, its well worth the money. That said I think people get sticker shock. Also a lot of "wealthy" people are in horrible debt. I spent $30k and I was shocked at how far it got me for doing renovations. Theres some good answers here, I hope you find something. Carpentry is a tough job and I have mad respect for you doing it.
