This is - as always - a serious topic of discussion with me.

A very long time ago I wanted to move our embedded images to a proxy system. People will join the forum and embed 1x1 pixels in their posts that grab the IPs of whoever loads the site. This enables them to create silly blacklists. In the case of private conversations, they can get specifically 1 person's IP. This might become a problem for that person in a number of very weird edge cases. Primarily, if visiting this website is illegal in your country, or if you're browsing via your school's network and have done something that might get you in trouble, your IP can cause you problems. For most people, it's not a big deal.
The issue with using an image proxy is that it exposes the server's IP instead, which causes more problems for me than it usually saves you. But this time, things are different.
![]()
This is not my server's IP, and it's not yours (unless you quote this post in the rich editor). This is a Netherlands proxy I set up to commemorate the occasion. Any time you post an image on the KF, it now gets cached by the Netherlands proxy. In most cases this is actually better because it's the same as attaching it to your post directly, but it can sometimes cause issues with different image hosts if they reject my proxy IP, so if that happens just attach it yourself. In general this will help with hotlinking problems, especially idiots linking to shit from 4chan's CDN that blocks hotlinking constantly and prunes content regularly.
TL;DR:
GOOD LUCK I'M BEHIND SEVEN PROXIES
I'm seeing an issue with various posts, and I'm not sure if it's the same problem that @I Just Want to See Attachments has mentioned above. I think any time someone posts an attachment, it comes up as a little box with an "X" over it, like so:
![]()
For example, @Batman VS Tony Danza's post in this thread is also showing this icon to me.
edit: Actually this might be a problem with the IMG tags, because now I'm seeing the error icon on this post and I linked to a screenshot hosted on Imgur.
