What was your Polybius? - What game made you decide it was time to stop?

The urban legend of Polybius before crappypastas got their hands on it was a game that would show up in an arcade, you would play it, and then you wouldn't want to play video games anymore. Also, the quarters were collected by the ubiquitous in the 1990's men in black suits.

I've noticed in the various game chat threads, many people saying they are done forever. Granted that tends to be because of Modern Gaming tm, but I'm looking for people's specific "I'm done with this fucking shit" game.

Personally, I still play games, but tend to look backwards. Live Service games and Battle Royale never appealed, so of course I'm looking backwards. Recently wrapped up Doom 64. I enjoyed it, but got frustrated several times from the lack of a jump button.

Not gaming as a whole. playing modern MMO make me realize that MMO genre is pretty much dead when social media becoming the norm, there 0 reason for you to stay in game and chill with other player after grinding session, so what you get is group of people who just afk 24/7 for no reason and turning the whole area into ghost town.

I highly doubt the people swearing they're so totally done with games because there's a gaynigger in the new ass creed or whatever are being serious and/or truthful. however, the idea of somebody allowing themselves to be chased out of gaming, the broadest and most diverse entertainment medium available today, in which something can be found for just about everybody, simply because they're mad about Current Year politics being shoehorned into mainstream games - which have been unrelentingly shit since at least 2006 - is deeply hilarious. if anybody has actually managed to do this, and isn't just LARPing for updoot stickers, I say to you: good riddance, retard.

not a game in particular but I've just been kinda fed up with shooters as a whole.
Arcade shooters a la CoD or BF are almost nothing but AAA slop
Boomer shooters/movement shooters/arena shooters are getting faster, and I don't have the ADHD zoomer brain to keep up with them without feeling burnt out
Tactical shooters are completely infested by larpers, and I've accepted the fact that they probably won't ever reach the heights of Raven Shield and similar games around that time

I have played a wide variety of other genres and nothing has really stuck with me the same way FPS games have. That's not to say I haven't had any fun but I just don't get interested when someone says that there's a new RPG or a new Strategy game coming out the same way I do when a new FPS game comes out.

for me it was more of a gradual thing, i still play a lot of games but its because im an antisocial loser faggot, and i default to games, but the joy isnt there anymore, i just replay all my old games now

A very recent example that still has its own active thread so I’ll try not to sperg too much here, but Nintendo has more or less been my last remaining tie to modern games, and the terrible Paper Mario TTYD remake may have finally cut that tie. I say “may have” because it’s too early to tell, but I plan to just stick with old games, rom hacks, and the occasional indie from now on. I won’t completely dismiss AAA, but a new game would have to be really good to get my attention.

I think you fundamentally don't understand the whole Ploybius urban legend if you're using it as an example of "fuck this shit I'm out". The legend was never "it made you hate vidjya", it was "it makes you feel like shit physically and glowie types appear and fuck with the machines, but you can't prove it" and "no one has seen a cabinet since then, but it's totally real".

How the fuck does some fictional game supposedly made by glow niggers at all relate to what the fuck you are talking about OP? "Disillusionment with gaming" is what you're talking about. If anything, encountering a "Polybius" like phenomenon IRL should reinvigorate your intrests for gaming, not make you bitch out.

Oh yea MMO's, primarily MMORPG's have been dead for over a decade at this point. I think there's a lot of factors that lead to it, but I think some of the biggest factors were, if you were into MMO's you were either already or just inevitably gunna get in to Runescape or WoW, and with those being such big and time consuming games already you wouldn't have time to pick up another. MMO's really catered towards old internet communities where information spread more organically through word of mouth and were more community oriented, along with old internet communities being more used to slower paced games since most people played on their home PC's or laptops.

Today though with how anti-social gaming is games that could/would have been MMO's seem to do a lot better as single player or 2-4 person multiplayer games.
More of a genre thing but attempting to play League of Legends just affirmed that I fucking hate MOBAs and can’t muster up the slightest bit of interest in them.
Funny enough as a pretty dedicated League player, I completely get what you mean. I like playing league, but the thought of playing another MOBA sounds like absolute dogshit to me and I will never even attempt to try another one.

I think Dark Souls might have ruined how I play Hack n Slash games, I try to play Bayonetta or Devil May Cry and I just can't. I'm terrible at them, and it's not even fun to improve because I find the level design in general unpleasant. Especially in Bayonetta, constant instant death traps, weird bosses, and terrible gimmicky moments just make me never want to revisit the games.

It's the same with walky talky story focused games like Uncharted. I love Uncharted 4 but I went to replay the game and i remembered how much I fucking hated the scripted story moments. I hate that kind of shit. It's why I tend to stay away from games like Red Dead, Last of Us, Jedi Survivor, God of War 2018 all of em do that same shit and I can't stand it.

I like games where the gameplay comes first, and I can understand it.

Yeah I thought this was going to be about lost arcade games or games that almost got finished but never published like Bio Force Ape or Primal Rage 2.

Same game different reason, got given a month ban after being mass-reported by a 4 man lobby that had a retard trying to bait me into saying racial slurs on some 2nd-grade reverse psychology shit, tried to appeal for this reason to the ticket review staff.

I wasn't overly vocal, no swearing, just defending myself and telling the others to shut up, and that if I got 1 month for that the players baiting racial slurs should get the same treatment - This man looked up, saw the bull-destroying his wife, and realized this was the only power he had in life so he denied my appeal and told me to "clean up my behavior as It wasn't fit for the conduct of the game".

Sent him a reply calling him an "overblown soy-cucked faggot with blown-out holes from getting willingly raped" and to do his job and delete my account like the good janny he was - I will never touch that game again, the player base is mostly retards and the staff doesn't respect you, if you play league, just leave.

It was part of the earlier urban legend that some of the kids who played it stopped playing video games altogether, and supposedly at least one became some kind of anti-gaming activist.
