It was all glowie orchestrated hysteria to distract people from actual chipping away of internet freedom that has been going on slowly for at least 20 years now.

Compare today's internet with even 2010's and imagine if some major announcement was made back then to turn it into what we have now. Much easier to do it slowly and make people think they are winning against it.
