I'm lazy and don't want to spend tons of time learning a complicated video editing software when all I want to do is organize a few clips and maybe add text / audio.

Whats a video editing program for dummies?

ffmpeg. it is literally just a few keyboard commands to edit a video. not much lazier than that.

i use kdenlive for the very simple and basic edits i occasionally do. seems to work well enough, and hasnt been too difficult for a retard like me to figure out. plus it is FOSS.

Kden Live for free and open source video editor.

If you have Windows 10/11, press Windows+G button for the free built-in video recording program.

Lossless Cut for pure clips.

Lightworks is a bit involved but free enough for most purposes and pretty well documented.

I'm not linking anything but Premier CS6 via the CS6 Master Collection LS16 is much easier to use, better, and functionally free if you can figure out how to find and run the x-force keygen sandboxed to avoid whatever virus shit it tries to do, how to edit a hosts file, and how to navigate updating it all (which is actually the most complicated part).

Lightworks and Premier are both overkill for clips though.

We had an open source media player (VLC) and record/streaming (OBS) so why not video editing? Thank you.

Open source video editing software tends to lack a direction or goal when being designed so it ends up being an undertaking just to learn them. If you want something that just works, unironically Windows Movie Maker will serve you just fine.
