What's so bad about being low IQ?

If you make how smart you are one of the pillars of your personality your a insufferable prick, if your smart and intelligent your words, thoughts and actions speak for themselfs, you don't need to show off with them as a badge of honour.

And just because your Educated, doesn't mean your intelligent - intelligence is problem solving using available facts and resources with prior knowledge, you can be educated and still be dumb as a rock because your problem solving is based on rote knowledge rather than problem solving and working within your technical and mental limitations.

Here's an experiment. Give a retard a modern TV and a DVR. Give a retard unlimited use of a phone and put your number in contacts. See how sane you are after a week of that spud constantly needing help unfucking his TV. Bonus points if you don't start wondering if eugenics needs to make a comeback.

Don't talk about my grandma that way.

Intelligence is a spectrum. People we view as stupid, say a country bumpkin who can't do math and reads at a 5th grade level might not be there to have an intellectual discussion with you, but if your car makes a funny noise he knows what it is without looking and can get it fixed at the price of a case of beer.

Serious answer:

Being retarded and being a psychopath are functionally identical. Stupid people are incapable of being actively Good, especially if they are caretakers of some kind. A certain level of intelligence is required for moral behaviour or to feel empathy.

You understand that if you look at someone upset, there is an active mental process going on in your mind in the blink of an eye. You look at their face, their expression. You think of recent events, and cross-reference those recent events with what you know of this person and their history. So after 800ms of rapid intuition, you go "oh, she's shaken up because that creepy guy came close and she remembered her abusive boyfriend", or something. It's exactly the same as looking at a riddle or puzzle and intuitively going "oh, it's talking about fish. I get it". Retards can't do that.

A psychopath sees someone in pain and just doesn't care. A retard sees someone in pain and is too mentally retarded to even realise it. At the extreme end you get kids with broken bones and shit that don't get sent to hospital, because the parents see timmy fall, see timmy scream and limp and his leg swell up, but are simply so retarded that the intuition that the leg might be broken doesn't occur to them. Horror stories like that, and worse.

So being dumb makes you functionally indistinguishable from a psycopath. That's why it's bad.

Honestly it depends on the UI, I'm not being facecious here but a lot of UI's dont account for old people (I wish there was a OAP QnA mode for most things) for example I can look at anything from a command prompt to the latest and greatest UI that a linux disto uses and be comfertable in moments.

Old people or non technical people get lost easily, it doesn't mater about the age group or intelligence they know what they want it's just gets to a point where there competency runs out and technological jargon begins, in my case I have two elderly parents who are both very highly educated and technical one can't see and the other can't grasp newer tech in the way you would expect. It's gotten that bad I have had to buy a team viewer licence just to support them with things like Warning! Cookie use on sites they dont normally go to, and other things they are not comfortable with and if anything are a bit intimidated by new tech to begin with.

A lot of it is down to the person, your average Kiwi is what 15 - 35 and technically savvy, but we already have a get of my damn lawn thread about various technical topics, what is intuitive to us will not always be that way and unless you stay involved in tech a lot of stuff will pass you by.

A example I have had is this - I have a neice and I found in my parents attic a old toy phone I had made from a real rotay dial phone when I was a kid - had happy memorys of it and wanted to share and when I said Phone she didnt' accosiate the word "Phone" with the item and picked up her toy mobile, its only as she has gotten older and seen me use a landline a few times here she has picked up this toy and mimiced me using it by trying to press buttons on a rotary dial phone.
