Speaking of weird historical events and the Romans, one of their relatively decent emperors somehow got struck by lightning and died. Truth really is stranger then fiction. That history is a weird beast, things that happened by happenstance stopped other things from happening and caused other things to happen.
A rider to Rome carrying a message to the emperor about a rebellion in a far flung region of the empire, a Bee stings his horse as he's travelling along the road he's knocked off horse runs and he's left with a head injury that keeps him unconscious for a period of time so he's not able to deliver his message on time for the emperor to put down the rebellion easily so it leads to a protracted war that causes famine in other areas.
All that happened because of a single Bee.
A lightning strike causes a forrest fire and 2000 miles away it causes a storm cell to form due to some unseasonably hot weather that causes a storm that sinks a fleet carrying gold / grain / etc and is the first dommino to fall that ends up collapsing a empire.
A guy intends to kill a Emperor but misses his chance, so he goes to get some food but another atempt by someone else causes the Emperor to change his route as the first assain walks out of the eatery is presented before him a sight of the Emperor he wanted to kill without any significant guard so he shoots and kills him and his wife, this ends up causing a 4 year long war that destroys a contenant nearly wipes out a whole generation of young men, leading to another war 20 years later that eventually leads upto mass migration, and cultural suicide.
All for the want of a sandwich and a bullet the world has been feeling those ripples for 100+ years and will be feeling them for 100 more.

The truth is rarely excellent.what's the difference between an excellent lie and the truth?
