What's the point of phonebooking people if they are not doing illegal shit?

I get collecting examples of people being lolcows or shitbags for others to laugh or get angry about, but what's the point of phonebooking any of these people? Especially when the board has a strict "look, but don't touch" rule?

To me it just seems like a power play "we know who you really are while we're actually anon" to make the target scared. Is this kind of intimidation really the whole point? Also, if an IRL incident DOES happen of someone using info aggregated on KF to pay a lolcow a visit IRL or do something nasty, then what happens? Does Null just nuke that thread and the forum washes its hands of what happened?

To clarify a few things that may come up:
  • Not trying to moralfag. Just curious if I'm missing something.
  • By "phonebooking" I don't mean just collecting a list of their social media accounts, but their IRL details.

When it comes to serious degenerates it's good to do, even if they technically haven't been caught for breaking the law yet, but doing it to just some weirdos seems unnecessary.

I'm trying to get it. Hence my question.
First of all, legality doesn't mean anything because the laws are written and interpreted by some of the most evil and incompetent people to ever walk the earth. Your behavior should be governed by an internal sense of morality and virtue, not the consensus of oligarchic pedophiles.

Secondly, kiwifarms isn't a vigilante movement, it's a retard zoo. We document retards because they're fun to laugh at or otherwise a spectacle to bear witness to, and for the most part we look for more information about them to laugh at them more or try to understand what the fuck their deal is. I'm ambivalent about doxing in the traditional sense because it opens the door for other mongoloids to directly interfere with the subject's life rather than passively observing, but on the other hand it's typically OSINT, i.e. publicly available info that they often put online themselves, it's not exactly a secret and people should know better anyway.

I hate the term phonebooking simply because "failphonebook" sounds gay and retarded and less funny than "faildox"
I prefer the term "journalism" since that's exactly what it is. Or "jism" for short.

I believe its just to show people how bad internet privacy has become, you get mad at one guy for reposting your info but you dont get mad at the corporations that sold it in the first place because your niggercattle with no rights. Normal people should have the terrible aspects of modern life thrown in their face so they either have to live with it or actually start caring.

All "phonebooking" that's done here is legal to my understanding: legally acquired information. So in that regard there should be no problem, however it was advised by the admin that the term "doxing" should be instead replaced with "documenting/etc" due to legal reasons or potential future problems, because the term (doxing) is now associated with other problematic behaviour such as intimidation, harassment, etc, and not just the repost of said legal info (which is what is done here, if not, you'd probably get a warning by a mod, or get banned, plus as you've said, there's a rule for "look, no touching").

As for why it's done, most of the time is because why not, it's that simple. Sometimes is done just for curiosity, what type of life they have (if they have criminal records, etc), and simply to archive stuff; to get everything of mild interest that can be gotten.

Nobody cares that Random_deviant_69 lives in Florida & has a DUI charge, but it may be entertaining to know (because guess what, this is a gossip site), and the one getting the information probably had some fun doing so, or was easy enough. Those are some reasons.

Instead of repeating what others have said (mainly it adds to the gossip), I'd like to provide an example of that:

One of the most recent halals (someone who uses/used the Kiwi Farms but gets a thread by acting retarded) was found to be living in Mexico City, Mexico. I was one of the people the subject liked to DM here, so it was easy to do a timezone conversion, and it was very funny to find out that he would spend lunchtime and midnights in Mexico City DMing me and getting MATI at others. At one point, he spent almost 12 hours DMing me, ending at 3 AM Monday Mexico City time and wasting his Saturday! :story:

The point is: knowing his location made it extremely entertaining (to me) when he would DM me, because I knew he was wasting his lunch and midnight just DMing me.
