What's the worst Final Fantasy game? - Excluding 13 and it's sequels so it's an actual discussion.

The answer is 13 but since that isn't on the table I would have to go with 15 if we aren't counting spin offs or online games. Seriously that game sucks ass.

Mystic Quest for the SNES was also kind of meh but definitely not the worst of the bunch and also its a spin off.

Edit: If we are going to count the final fantasy's 1 - 10 which are considered the best, then I would actually have to tip my fedora and say FF4. Seriously the game has zero character customization compared to all the other entries. Also you are constantly switching party members who you will never see again except for the final 5. The zero character customization is the reason I hate that one, all the other final fantasy's had the ability to control levelling / spells / classes etc. but FF4 you literally only could change their equipment.

Despite what original purists have to say, I honestly think that the FF7 remake games perfectly encompass what Final Fantasy should be, a perfect balance of silly and serious, magical and technological. Shit like 16 was just too serious and shit like World of Final Fantasy is too goofy for my liking.

13 is the clear choice, but seeing as how that’s excluded, I was never the biggest fan of 3. It introduced the job system sure, but the game as a whole still felt very unrefined. You could say that about FF1 and 2 as well, but I give those a pass for FF1 being the first of its kind and 2 doing something completely different. 3 just feels like the odd man out and it really isn’t until FF4 I think the series starts to find its footing.

I thought so too at first, but it's amazing, tons of fan service in a good way, not too forced. Seeing all your favorite characters again like Tidus is just damn fun.
I liked the time-space surrealism of it, its why I always pick Pokemon Pearl over Pokemon Diamond.

I hate grinding so 4 is one of my favorites. You don't really have to grind. I play these for gameplay and story and 4 is pretty easy to just sit down and play. It's why I've replayed it more than any of others. I've done dozens of run throughs of 4. Can't say that about any of the others. Even 6. Grinding is a gay chore.

Shame the game getting harder to launch on PC these days. For some reason, launching it through Steam doesn't work. Love that my girl Faris is in that game and I can ride behemoths.

13 and 13-2 are bad but at least they still have jrpg game mechanics, can't say that for the ones after them.
For the older ones I was never a great fan of 5, never particularly cared about the story or the characters, the battle system saves it though.
I agree with the above kiwis about World of Final Fantasy, it is the only Final Fantasy I've enjoyed since X. Not a masterpiece by any means, but at least it caters to the actual fanbase rather than retarded zoomers.

I always considered X-2 to be the first bad FF game but XIII is by far the absolute worst game in the series, it makes X-2 look like FFX. I never bothered with the rest of the XIII trilogy since the first game was such a POS. I always considered Final Fantasy's "golden age" to be IV-X and everything went to shit after that since FF's creator Hironobu Sakaguchi quit Square Enix shortly after that and FF died when he left.

As for the more recent games I would have to say FFXVI as it's literally the least 'Final Fantasy' Final Fantasy game they've ever made. There is no customization except for changing your sword and your "accessory" and the combat just copied DMC except it's not even fun, since it feels like you're just mashing buttons over and over again. Say what you will about the FFVII Remakes but at least they did an awesome job with the combat system in that game, they really made it feel like a "modern" ATB system.

Also, FFV isn't necessarily a bad game but it's still pretty fucking mid, it's just a very bland middle of the road kind of game which is very strange since it came out in-between IV and VI.

I know this is a mildly unpopular opinion but the first three Final Fantasy games are honestly kinda shit and the series didn't really start getting good until the 4th game. I mean the Pixel Remasters made the first few games more "playable" but they're kinda shitty and really boring to play. I always felt the same about the first two Dragon Quest games, they were considered "good" for the time they came out back in the late 80's when gaming was a lot more primitive but they've both aged really terribly now and are not worth playing anymore unless you're playing some "modern updated" version like the Pixel Remasters.
