People wax nostalgic about the 2000s era of edgy internet constantly even on here. 4chan and ED to be specific and the content, memes and culture that time period exalts. However is it really as amazing as people say it is? What’s the worst part about that time period and the mentality that came from that period?

The internet was never particularly "edgy."
The time period oldfags stroke themselves over was the era of rage comics and lolcats.
All the "epic wins" of that period were only possible because 90% of the population, including those running a lot of the platforms, were internet illiterate so it was easy to make waves with just a couple dozen people.

Examples:
Habbo Hotel
Oprah's "over 9000 penises"
"Who is this Four Chan?"
Hitler did nothing wrong
etc. You get the idea.

Not to mention the standard nostalgia thing where people are looking at all the shit that happened over the span of like 10 years and mentally compressing it as if stuff like that was happening all the time when it was really more "once in a blue moon" not much different than today.

If we’re just talking about old internet culture (lol) I’m well aware I’m most likely just looking back with my rose tinted glasses on, but I do miss how much more laid back and easygoing people seemed back then. I’m not just talking about being able to call someone a niggerfaggot without a howling mob after you, but people seemed much more open to actually having a conversation and entertaining opposing viewpoints without chimping out because Stranger X doesn’t agree with Stranger Y. Places like GameFAQS and their overly draconian neckbeard mods seemed like outliers compared to the rest of the internet. Nowadays it feels like most of the internet has adopted that GameFAQS/Reddit janny mindset.

As much as I agree with the wild west breaking new ground the 2000s were, a lot of it was unpolished and can be hard to enjoy today. Especially for newcomers. For ever good ED page, there were 12 forced and unfunny pages trying to copy the success of good pages.

The hate for the Irate Gamer and Hellsing920 was intense. Personal armies were not super common but when they did happen, that dial was cranked all the way to eleven.

Mylordy was GameFAQS such a pain at a certain point. For those that don't know, if you were fresh meat, most of the established would at best completely ignore you. They would bitch loudly about any intruders to their precious boards.

Being a bunch of bitter oldfaggots waxing the glory days of what once was and clitty leaking over newGODS is what modern 4cucks is. Sharty's retarded, but newDIETIES joining in on the fun can produce some high quality gems instead of being a stagnant rotting site where you just bitch and moan about shit with tranny jannies rule cucking you if they feel like it.

It's just the teenage nostalgia for me, it's the same for any media, really. I connect the old internet stuff to a time when i was still young, happy and full of hope. Now i am old and bitter and of course everything is shit. Get off my lawn.
