What's with all these STOICISM Books popping up all over social media recently? Where is this hype coming from?

Whatever helps get cattle away from overspending on funkopops or stanley cups.

Some smart self-help guy in the 2010s figured out that he could easily outclass most of the competition by claiming connection to a cool Roman emperor rather than the generic Buddhist monks or Chinese literature, and since then it has become its own genre of self help slop. There's no theology or funny terms, no physical practice, just basic life and mindset advice, so there's basically nothing stopping any "influencer" from simply claiming he's a stoic.

Edit: I think the two responsible for starting the snowball may be Ryan Holliday and Massimo Pigliucci. Holliday started a newletter named the The Daily Stoic and is popular on twitter, etc., and Pigliucci wrote some very popular articles like How to be a Stoic.

Can you fix this problem?
Yes: Fix it
No: Don't worry about it

Can you improve your position in life?
Yes: Then improve it.
No: Just accept you are where you are, and move on

You failed at something - did you try your hardest?
Yes: Then it wasn't meant to be.
No: You have no one else to blame but yourself
The idea of "Wow, maybe I shouldn't be super upset over these things which I have no control over 24/7" is a pretty revolutionary concept in modern America. I think it's one of those things that we all intuitively understand, but it takes someone else to spell it out to understand. Almost every single culture has developed these ideas to some extent, but Stoicism just beats you over the head with them.

"Look, you can't do anything about the world going to utter shit. Therefore you should learn to just swallow all those little impulses telling you how wrong everything is. Just ignore them, eat the bugs, live in the pod, and don't even think about stepping out of line."

Let me introduce you to my friend Reformed Stoic. https://www.youtube.com/@reformedstoic1581 <<<His channel . Reformed Stoic is the first guy I saw talking this nonsense online. He is a former MGTOW type guy that is fully schizophrenic. He has had some of my favorite freak outs on the web. He self published his own insane book that I didnt read. There used to be a couple of really good short documentaries on him that I would link to, but I was unable to find them. He is very medicated now so he doesnt have the same delusional outbursts about being gang stalked , but he is worth checking out especially his classic content. I know it seems off topic but this guy is 100% into the Stoic nonsense and as I said before, he is the first one I saw in the wild years ago

Check em out

Its a sign that things are going to get much worse before they get better

Because stoicism is a nice cope and its non threatening to the establishment. Stoicism in modern America is taking it up the ass while you pretend to not care about getting fucked hard. These books just teach you how to be a social retard, they don't ever teach you anything valuable or lifechanging. It hurts my soul that millions of people invest in stupid shit like stoicism and don't pursue a certification that could boost their salary.

There's a terrible trend that came of American culture where you are told that everything is about MINDSET. You will achieve everything only if you have the right MINDSET. Yeah yeah college is cool but you'll only get through it if you have the right MINDSET.

I think this is a result of the sales/huckster boom of the 1970s with people like Glenn W. Turner and Napoleon Hill, who basically created the mindset selling industry (Turner was inspired by someone else afaik but Koskot was bigger than anything before). It's incredibly low risk-high return to get into the business, and for their marks, it seems perfectly obvious that with the right MINDSET they're easily going to do anything else they need to do. Ever since this industry exploded, their talking points have become part of public consciousness, to the extent that even normie parents, HR people, and therapists now blindly talk about how it's all about MINDSET. The only thing holding back the industry was that most of it was based on teaching people about sales or investing (read: Pyramid schemes), and this is still the biggest part of the industry, with people like Dan Lok and Grant Cardone, but with more spiritual ideas like Stoicism, atheist Buddhism, Machiavelli, neo-Hinduism, I even recall seeing a business mindset book based on Miyamoto Musashi's The Book of Five Rings, the mindset selling industry could be expanded with promises to improve a person's life in every aspect and solving any problem they may have, without any requirement that the person selling the mindset had to be someone who had already achieved success.
