Personally I believe we all are human, we make mistakes, we post cringe, we all do a bit of lolcow behavior at some point but we move on. I don't judge unless its something truly not redeemable.

What do you think?

In the early ages of humanity, individual survival was dependent upon the approbation of the group. You couldn't adequately protect yourself, get enough calories or really have enough resources as a single person, and so we evolved a response to social derision that's wired directly into where our brain processes pain responses. To be shunned by the group was to face certain death, and so those who were wired for cooperation and copacetic behavior tended to reproduce and pass on their genes more often.

To me, this shows why committing a big social faux pas can feel like the end of the world, give you that 'roller coaster' feeling in your gut. It's primal terror, on some level.

So I ask myself if the person realizes what they have done, and if in doing so they have resolved to do better in the future and begun making genuine changes. Anyone who doesn't pass that muster is most likely exceptional or a lolcow and should not be reproducing. Think of the collective good.

The meme 'bro you just posted cringe' is itself cringe and shows that cringe is acceptable if it ironic cringe.

Cringe is like being a Nazi, so long as you're ironic about it it's fine. If the Nazis had said to people 'We're doing this because you called us Nazis and we're not and putting you in a camp and gassing you is the kind of thing actual Nazis would do' they'd have all been acquited at Nuremberg.

And so it is with posting stale memes.

Understandable. Very interesting takes on it.

cringe is most everything that teenagers say and do. it is part of the human condition and part of growing up, not some rare cancer. imo "cringe" synonymous with "immature," (unless I'm missing some subtext) and cringe = acting like idiot children.

in adults it merits scorn, but kids will obviously be kids. adults who complain about too much cringe should maybe stop reading r/dankspongebobmemes first.

Think of this:
Van Gogh was a cringy weirdo loser when he was alive but now, he's considered one of the greatest painters of all time.
Newton would definitely have a thread on KF if he was alive today. He threatened to murder his mother and stepfather when he was a teenager, that would definitely fuck up his prospects in the age of social media outrage. He apparently died as a virgin, he would probably be considered an Incel today.

There are lolcows who are secret geniuses but, to the average person, they're just cringy because they're unlike everyone else.
I remember some dude talking with Metokur, Ralph etc. on a stream. They were laughing at some Youtuber that this dude was a fan of. Metokur said something like: "Are you aware of the private life of X?" to which the dude replied: "No, I just like when he makes videos about insert some technical terms here."
Metokur only saw the cringe, the other guy saw a specific field that the Youtuber was an expert in.

We need to think more about who we make fun of because we might get a genius inventor to kill himself just because he happens to like diaper porn.
I don't mind laughing at people like DSP because all they do is consume and pollute but that's a completely different type of person.

Yeah but we also might get a serial killer who eats babies so I think judging people based on their potential future actions is incomparable to a guy who masturbates troons saying it's not gay.

"We should laugh at people more, because that promotes eugenics and prevents dysgenics"
"We should laugh at people less, because Van Gogh was a diaper fetishist too"
"We should laugh at people more, because serial killers eat babies, just like that environmentalist girl"

Personally, I think that you are all a bunch of boring moralfags, and I am going to keep on laughing at reeeetards, not because it raises the net wellbeing of humanity, but because it raises my net wellbeing.

Woah, you're cool.

No, I just like laughing at people while I don't pretend I am a saint for doing so.
The point of lolcows is for you to laugh at them, not to use them as a way to push your political or ethical agenda, who gives a fuck other than you?
