Alright, due to the recent Patreon salt, I wanted to start a thread about content that is actually worth supporting. Now, such an opinion is just that, an opinion, and I know some people don’t like Patreon at all. That’s fine. I respect that. But if you do, who would you support, and why are they worthy of it?

I don’t actually have the money to support anyone but personally, if I could, I’d support PeanutButterGamer, Jordan Underneath, and Jim Sterling.

Those choices mainly come down to my personal tastes, but I have some rules about this stuff, too. If I know about someone’s Patreon before I hear about their content, then that is almost always a no-go for me, with very few exceptions. Usually, that’s a symptom of them advertising their Patreon more than their content, showing a lack of pride (and often quality/quantity) in their work. I also have to feel like they are passionate/care about said content. If they don’t, they’ll lose interest and abandon it, and I’m not paying for that. Finally, I want to see that they put hard work into it. Editing and scripts for videos, or finish projects for art with some experimentation/branching out, periodically.

What about y’all?

Pretty much nobody. The entire platform is corrupt and scam-oriented and I would rather not give someone I like money than even give Patreon a single penny.

If they continue their good behavior, though, I might change my mind.

I wouldn't. I really don't trust that the content creators are going to do what they say they will with the money, even if they are normally trustworthy people. Who knows if they're gonna buy that new camera, or Premiere or some shit?

Crowd-funding is a lot of the times really fucking dumb though, as iDubbbz has shown us in Kickstarter Crap.

There needs to be a respectful nod rating. An “I disagree but see where you’re coming from” rating.

Both produce real content unlike the various scammers and leechers presented here.
I really like Ian and that dig he's doing is gonna be kick ass I hope it happens.

But I just can't justify giving them any money when this is a hobby and they make money both online outside of this and have real jobs.

I like cool shit too, lots of cool shit but that doesn't mean you should pay me to have my own amusement and show you when you could go out and do cool shit yourself.

Also as @AnOminous said they have more than questionable practices going so even if I felt inclined I wouldn't want to deal with these companies.

@Give Her The D Sam Hyde's kickstarter tv was fucking boss, way better than Idubz.

Honestly?

I would just do JonTron, SomecallmeJohnny, TheGamingBrit, and HyperBitHero. That's basically my limit. I would try to do like 2 bucks per month or 5 depending on a budget range.
