Why are goods moved by ships called CARgo and not SHIPgo?

Because they used to CARry the goods to and from a CAR so that they could then see the CAR go to their destination. Either that or it's just a bastardization of CARnage or somethin'...

The word "cargo" has its origins in the Spanish word "cargamento," which means "load" or "freight." This, in turn, comes from the verb "cargar," meaning "to load." The Spanish term is derived from the Latin word "carricare," which means "to load a cart," from "carrus," meaning "cart" or "wagon."

The term "cargo" entered the English language in the late 16th century, primarily used to refer to goods transported by ship. Over time, it has come to encompass any goods or merchandise carried on various modes of transport.
