With bathrooms the way they are now there's a chance you go in there and it's not going to smell like shit, if it does you just bare with it. A lot of people aren't going to willingly walk into a place they know will probably smell like shit as soon as they walk in, unless they're on the verge of shit explosion and can't hold it.

In they were a thing though, 6 feet of separation is something we'd actually need between the stalls to lessen the awkwardness of dudes silently pooping next to one another.

That would be ideal yes, but that also requires building a new room or repurposing another one. This plan would only require the existing two bathrooms.

My university made all the bathrooms gender neutral and removed the urinals. The result was that all the stalls were full and you had to go off campus to take a piss, or risk getting a public urination charge.
