I'm walking through the mall, theres an ad for mobile phones, its a Black chick with a full afro. I go to Steam to look for games, the title page has a Black chick with cornrows. I'm watching TV and during the ad break it's another Black girl with an afro wearing a dress. I'm browsing a site and on the sidebar, is an ad for a videogame featuring a Black girl with an afro.

When I went to a doctor's office shortly before leaving Big City there was a TV in the exam room pushing ads at me with nigger women. The world's getting pretty dystopic out there.

Black is what is "cool" right now. Supporting Black is virtuous and """edgy""" (but not really as retailers would NEVER take a gamble). It's the modern day company equivalent to "We're going green " and "God bless America!" It's something they do to earn consumer trust by showing they share the same values as you, no matter how much of a reach the connection is to their actual product.


Make no mistake, the same companies will be using pale models or those with highly specific standards of beauty in places like India or China (which had a model that parts of the population claimed was too stereotypically asian ). Inclusivity only goes so far. When the trend shifts back to whatever type of woman, companies will hire that type of woman again.

Well plus size clothes should be modeled by plus sized women. But there also should be a ceiling. If you are ready for Dr. Now you don't need to be encouraging other fatties by telling them they can still buy nice clothes.
