Why are there so many flavors of Mountain Dew?

There’s like 7 concurrently running everywhere, about a dozen store and restaurant exclusive flavors like the famous Baja Blast, around 4 fountain exclusive flavors, the game fuel and energy drink lines, and then you have the seasonal ones like DEW-s-a for the 4th of July, VooDEW for Halloween, and a Christmas flavor that changes every year. Do they really need that much variety?
