Why are we promoting the environmental advantages of fracking with one hand and banning gas stoves with the other?

Like it says. My question doesn't seem to fit the tone of this part of the board; please feel free to redirect me.

I have no political stance on this either way, I'm just baffled by the contradiction.

Dumb. They'll make up some nonsense about harm reduction but how public health handles almost everything makes no sense.

Never in my life have I heard people touting "the environmental advantages of fracking."
I hear many more retards who think it causes earthquakes and makes your sink catch fire.

Well, it does say "ask a stupid question".

I thought there was a feeling that it was better for the environment than coal and oil and that there were some gray areas on the issue, but it seems like it falls right down the old red-blue divide just like everything else.

People who support fracking (I'm one of them) typically argue against all the supposed environmental damage they are claimed to do. I don't think anyone's saying "actually, fracking is GOOD for the environment."
It's no better or worse than a conventional oil/natural gas well in that regard. It just gives us access to deposits we otherwise wouldn't have available.
