This came up in another thread. I've been wondering this for years. This started as a weird tumblr and deviantart obsession and now is pushed with toys and kids' books. Yet I can't remember the last time I saw a person with vitiligo that was noticeable in real life.

Examples:

Woke kids book (one example out of many)

Because they're simultaneously obsessed with race and seeing it wherever they go but also ideologically forbidden from examining what it actually is except at the most superficial level. Any answer other than "it both doesn't exist but also defines every aspect of a person's life" is wrongthink, because anything else risks leading you down the path of considering if race is more than skin-deep. So when you have this (literally) surface-level understanding of race as just being "the color of your skin", then a skin condition like vitiligo is fascinating to you.

"Why, they're black, but their skin is white? But... they still don't look like white people? How can this be?". It's fascinating if you don't already understand that race is more complicated than skin color - which is an idea you simply aren't allowed to entertain.

It's cognitive dissonance, in other words.

I think because it's kind of a gross disorder that only affects black people, and these people lead a somewhat puzzling existence where the uglier and less socially desirable something tied to identity is, the more they like it.

That's maybe because they're mostly insecure girls so they figure if they can get everyone to consider disgusting shit normal then they can feel ok and socially acceptable by comparison.

Man, you're way more optimistic about these people's depth of thought than I am.

You can watch roger scruton's sublime documentary "why beauty matters".

As a counterpoint demoralization includes making sure we are surrounded by ugly art, ugly buildings, ugly statues. When everything is ugly, people are demoralized. They don't feel the need to defend and protect their culture. And if they don't, it's easier to take everything from people.

If you go to art exhibits by students you can see this in action very clearly. You see the booklets informing you why beauty should never be the goal of art (covert message: beauty in art is bad). You see the ugly creations of the 4th year students. And it actually starts looking better when you go down to 3rd 2nd years. Then there's the first year creations, which generally are close to beautiful. They look like the untrained, slightly amateurish creations, but definitely from talented kids. You can see how their goals are realigned and how ugly the education is making their creations.

This obsessesion with the ugly becomes unconscious. And I'm sorry for anyone that has vitigillo, but it's very ugly. Beauty isn't the only thing that matters, but the truth is that it's ugly. Like being fat. They'll deny that this is true and claim its about inclusivity and body positivity, but even in their hearts they know that isnt true.

This is body positivity I can get behind. You choose to be fat, you don't choose to have a skin condition.

It's ridiculous Michael Jackson was slandered as self-hating just for balancing out his skin tone.

Surprised no one has said this yet: because they are obsessed with depicting disability and "difference" (it increases intersectionality) and vitiligo is more fun to depict in artwork than amputated limbs or facial scars etc. It comes off as zany rather than tragic, so you can get the intersectional points you want without scaring anybody.

A few years back I had a white patch of skin that a doctor told me was an autoimmune reaction, although it went away on its own after a few months. I never heard the term "vitiligo" at the time but now I'm sad I missed my chance to be an intersectional SJW YouTuber :(

A mix on fixation on minorities and juat making their OC, Donut Steel, as special as Xir can be.
