It's a combination of things. The education system can't be fucked to teach anything other than the propaganda of the day (currently pronouns and anal fisting for pre-teens). People also don't care. We have two oceans on our sides and mostly irrelevant countries above and below us. If our neighbors were Russia, China, or even Germany, I'm sure we'd have a better idea of where things were. Our politicians have no interest in having people educated on these subjects. If we knew geography (and history), we'd be less easy to manipulate into supporting wars overseas that result in billions of sales of Raytheon and Lockheed products and bonuses for their ne'er-do-well relatives on the boards of these companies.
