The old UI on android (3.0-4.4) was called Holo UI, but it was replaced by Material Design in Android 5.0. Why does Holo UI look so much better than modern Google UI?
Why do Material & Material You look like shit as opposed to Holo UI?

There are boomers out there still hanging on to ancient devices running these versions of Android and I had to deal with one recently. I was honestly blown away how good the UI looked since you'd think something that old and from such an early era of Android development would look either cheesy or extremely dated.
I had a web dev roommate during the period where shit like Material Design and Electron was starting to get really popular and everytime he'd shill it to me, I'd tell him it was the most retarded nonsense I had ever heard and it'd never catch on. Sadly I was only half right

Remember when a proper dark mode ui was ripped out with the early material design? Hated that shit. Loathed it. The phones I had couldn't practically be rooted to change this.
