Why do old people on the internet add a name or signature to every single thing they type?

Shit like this on any forum or comment section:

I agree. The emerald green arborvitae is a great choice for a hedge as it's both an evergreen and has relatively quick growth. For the length you would like to cover I suggest starting with five and spacing them three feet apart. See where that gets you. -Mark

Serious answer -- It's a holdover from physical letter writing that carried over onto email, listservs, and early BBSes/forums in the 90s as netiquette was developing. It was fading in the early 2000s, but didn't really die until smartphones, Myspace/Facebook, and later reddit took over and killed Web 1.0 culture.

Same reason why you're 'The swag bag stag'

It makes you sound more official obviously.

Hey @Retink while we're on the subject of boomerisms I've been meaning to ask why you've got that "KiwiFarms.net" thing deliberately in your avatar message. You know it appears automatically, right? This is what you look like to people that aren't logged in:

It's from back when the Jack Murphy thing was going on, a post from here was shared around and a lot of people like the Quartering weren't crediting the website, but it had the same message in the message line. I think the original person to share it was logged in and was a guy who was dumping a bunch of the porn Murphy made. Just decided to add it in for reference if one of my posts was ever used in such an event.

Edit: Or maybe they weren't logged in, in either case I figured I'd make it more visible (From the tweet Quartering was referencing that was a screen capture of a Kiwifarms post)

'cause older people don't know how the internet works. they're the same people who use their real full names as their YouTube account names. I believe they think it's something they have to have their names on. like, legally.

Better Yet, Why Do Boomers Capitalize Every First Letter Of A Word? It’s Not Like There Any Reason To. It’s Not A Holdover From Type Writers Either.
