Why do people believe that there are only two genders?

Gender is binary, unless someone gains so much weight that the binary tears apart and their pants button flies off and puts someone's eye out across the room

What about people who stop being fat? Are you saying you believe you can change your gender? Sounds a bit like heresy to me.

There are two genders; what people call nonbinary genders are not meaningfully genders.
That being said it is reasonable that you will find some people believe there two genders, and some people who believe there are many more. In America we have used decimal for many uses (if you heard of "ones place, tens place, hundreds placed" in elementary school math, that's decimal, powers of ten), and binary for hardware sizes (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 are all powers of two). So for matters of convenience people will pick one or the other.
