Why do people make sock accounts?

I agree with you, but to answer your question:

1.) To be unassociated with your main account, be a lurker mainly, to see if people are talkin shit about you or whatever

2.) Backup account in case something happens to your first account

3.) Faggots keep getting banned and keep having to make new accounts

4.) To pretend to be somebody else

5.) Some people are pathetic and use sock accounts to "win" arguments, (like if someone disagrees with the main account, the socks will show up to disagree with the guy and agree with the main, most of the time the socks are insulting the guy who disagreed in the first place) or give positive updoots on the main account's comments, and downvote people with opposing comments.

6.) You're Zoey

Historically the purpose of a sockpuppet account, and the etymological origin of the term, was to make intentionally weak arguments against oneself so one could then dunk on them and make their position look stronger, or otherwise have an interaction play out in a scripted way -- much like a puppeteer talking to a sockpuppet.

In other words, gay.

These sock accounts could be any one of us. They could be in this very thread!
It could be you; it could be me!
It could even be-
