Recently, Kyle Kulinski, a prominent left-wing YouTuber, tweeted that he believes that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution should be extended to the workplace in order to protect workers from being fired for their speech. Vaush, another prominent left-wing YouTuber, retweeted him saying that he was crazy for holding this position:
The replies to this retweet, and of the original tweet, were filled with people of who I assume are of a left-wing bent saying "But what about racists?":
This is part of a larger trend that includes leftists defending the deplatforming of right-leaning figures from social media with the "It's a private company, they can do whatever they want" line of defense.
Now I’m not a leftist, but it honestly pisses me off seeing leftists act like strategic libertarians and defend corporations when it comes to issues of freedom of speech and whenever the question of how to deal with racism comes up. Vaush and people like him in a lot of ways are neoliberals in socialist/leftist clothing: they talk a big game about how evil corporations are, but at the end of the day they’ll side with woke capital if it means suppressing voices that they don’t like. There are leftists who argue that intersectionalism/idpol is a means of dividing the working class and preventing any significant systemic change, and I’m inclined to agree with that sentiment. Vaush especially has a habit of running apologetics for big tech firms like Google and FaceBook suppressing right-wing voices.
My question is, why do they do this? Are they aware of how defending megacorporations contradicts their leftists principles, or are they simply too dumb to see the contradiction? And if it's the former, how do they justify this contradiction?
