Why does an air conditioner cost 16k

Where do you live where it costs anywhere near that much?

This was one of the more expensive window box options I found on Amazon, and a bedroom sized unit will only cost a couple hundred at most.

Are you talking about some fancy central unit? Is it that expensive? I guess it could run you up if you had to also have the duct work installed too. And you might need some electric work if it's an old house that hasn't had any wiring done in many decades. i.e. my grandparents' 70 year old wiring that some moron fucked up anyway.

Industrial units would cost more. But they are meant to cool large spaces like warehouses and Home Depot. No one is gonna need that in their house.

Because people will pay it since not have ac fucking sucks. Pay for the magic cooling box or have dozens of loud ass fans that barely cool a foot in front of them or fill every window with an even louder window box.

In the middle of a urbanized hellscape desert where it gets up to 115 freedom units. I think if I replaced it in winter I would of probably gotten a better deal but it took a shit on me during the hottest time of the year when everyone's AC takes a shit so the demand is high. 3 other people in my neighborhood were getting new ones too.

If I could I'd go without it but out here the chances of you dying from heatstroke is pretty high if you don't have an AC.

Forgot to mention these are the large roof AC units. Where I live a window unit or a portable one doesn't cut it, I learned that from personal experience.

Do you believe this shit?

Everytime your ac stops working and you call a guy, they just refill the ice box inside. Refrigeration is fake.

Edit: just saw you have an RTU, 16k for the unit and install is normal, the crane charges are crazy and they charge hourly from when they leave this place to when they get back.

For normal people houses:
A replacement of an AC should be around 4500 to 5500, and a replacement of a furnace and AC should be around 12000.
