Why does nobody ever call Winnie the Pooh by his actual name?

Mr. Sanders was the previous owner of the house. I think that's the full extent of the in-universe lore about him. (It may have been a good-natured jab at publisher Frank Sanders by his friend Ernest H. Shepard, illustrator of the Winnie the Pooh books.)
