Why does the progressive left ignore problematic black rap?

it's because there's this idea when you're hard left that black people are the way they are because systematic oppression has forced them into that hole. They've been forced into ghettos, low income housing, and the 'projects' and treated as second class citizens even once segregation ended. Therefore, being a hoodrat is part of the black experience and black culture now- so it's totally untouchable.

I believe in systematic oppression and I totally understand why the black community is the way it is, but I also genuinely believe that in this day and age it is fucking piss easy to rise up and out of generational poverty and into a better position in life.

There's also just the argument that 'music is music and they don't actually do that stuff' but Jay Z literally released an album about getting away with murder so that doesn't really hold up.

They legitimately believe that black people have no agency.

Whenever a black man beats the shit out of an old Asian woman, people on Twitter will claim that "white supremacy made him do it", because obviously if white people weren't holding blacks down then the black man wouldn't have felt he needed to beat and rob an old woman. Yes, these people literally believe that people only commit crimes because they are poor and have no choice but to. Every black person is Javert stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family, even when he's stealing Nikes.

1. Bashing on rap won’t get you any power. The reason people bitch & moan about white people is because it’s an easy & accepted way to grab power and be relevant. Rap isn’t really a white person thing so what’s the point

2. Black people aren’t going to have the guilt and virtue signaling fetish that white people do. People that listen to rap do not give a fuck & rappers will tell you to fuck off.

They did for many years but I don't think that's the case any longer. Hell, even back in 2013 you had the whole scandal over Rick Ross having a "date rape" lyric in a song. Now in 2021 it feels like rap is much more under attack. Drake has been the subject of some progressive journos outcry because of his multiple songs which "objectify" women. Kanye 100% would have been blacklisted if not for the fact that he is absurdly rich and popular and thus could self-sustain his career in any event. Then you have DaBaby, who was probably the #1 rapper for a period of time in 2020/21, but now has been absolutely ruined for expressing controversial views on homosexuality (views which used to be the norm in hip hop).

It's also hard to look at the rise of Lil Nas X, as much as I like a lot of his songs, and not think that he's being pushed for some ulterior cultural motives. I think the progressive left would quite like to take over hip hop in the exact same way that they monopolised rock music with limp-dicked "indie" culture. But they have to be careful about it because the backlash could be intense. It's being dripfed bit-by-bit with the new wave of gay and women rappers who are pushed by music journalists as being the forefront of modern rap. But they still have the problem of the mass of artists who got popular in the 00s/10s and are still around, and who very much don't fit into the image they want to cultivate.

Because in the oppression Olympics stacks a straight black male is always going to be higher then a cis white woman.
Basically if the progressives criticize hip hop they get called racist and after all being called racist by a left winger black person is their kryptonite.

Every black person is Javert stealing a loaf of bread to feed his family,
I totally agree with you on the agency thing, but I could have sworn the bread thief was Valjean and Javert was the cop. But even if the names are wrong, they totally would believe that. They like reversing the narrative like that and they can't read another book, much less an unabridged classic written by a white male.

What I wonder is, why aren't the anti-progressives using rap more in their rhetoric?
I would go for it.
For example, when some feminist, especially if she's black, talks about toxic masculinity, I would go:
I agree and one of the biggest outlets promoting toxic masculinity is rap music which is primarily made by black men. What can we do to turn the sexism of these black men into something more positive?"
If she's black, I would also add:
"As a member of the black community, what are you doing to promote less sexism in rap music?"

Then, I would watch her trip over herself, trying to come up with something that makes sense.

This isn't true in the slightest. I still see people bitching about NWA lyrics nearly 30 years after they've broken up. I feel like every other day there's a new hot take about how sexist or homophobic (x) rapper is. Rap used to be shit on constantly by feminist and more conservative black organizations. It makes both political camps seethe.

But to actually answer your question, twitter liberals generally see blacks as victims of a broken system. They don't hold them up to the same standard that they do white people.

Progressives do it so they feel connected to black culture without actually having to live with them. It makes them feel enlightened for being open to their "culture" even though they live completely different lives. Same reason you see millions thrown to blm while none of them would try to clean up chicago or compton.

Outside of Gay and women rappers that the media promote, and besides rich well know legacy ones like Jay-Z and Kanye who have 20+ year careers, rap is not as relevant as it was 10-15 years ago like in the 2000's . So they have nothing to gain. Its easier just to make rap literally gay with people likeLil Nas X.

The probable reason is that the only rap progressives have ever listened to is sanitized, current-year approved rap. Most of them would probably think DMX is a brand of drain cleaner.
You would have to listen to it to find the problematic shit and no one with any taste wants to listen to rap
>implying progressives have taste
You're talking about the sort of people that think Marvel and Disney movies are the peak of cinema, expecting taste from them is like expecting a poverty-stricken Somalian to be an expert in fine dining.
