Why Goku is actually a really good father

To understand why Goku is a good father, we need to understand the background of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z was based off of a Chinese epic called Pilgrimage to the West. In this Chinese epic, the monkey king traveled on a flying cloud and had a magic staff. He set off to collect a bunch of scrolls of wisdom or some bullshit in order to seek enlightenment, whatever, it doesn't fucking matter, it's the same thing as collecting the dragon balls.

Anyhow, We have to consider that the monkey king's path to enlightenment is meant to reflect the Buddha's path to enlightenment.

And since Goku was based off of the Monkey King from Journey to the West, therefore Goku has become like the Buddha. And just like Goku, the Buddha abandoned his family.

So if the Buddha is father to spiritual enlightenment and he abandoned his family, then Goku is also a really good father for sacrificing all of his time training in order to prevent the Earth from getting blown up by space aliens.

Just because Goku's design & weapons (cloud, staff) is based on a chinese folklore warrior-monkey, it does not mean it's supposed to be him.

But even humoring your argument, he does not abandon his family, he comes back to them in multiple occasions. That does not seem like abandonement, just negligence/laziness/lack of care/etc when he's not around.

He is overall a good parent though, as he's portrayed with a pure heart when it matters and as someone who would sacrifice himself for his family, and fight god-demon tier villains in order to protect them (along with everyone else).

Buddhism is a nihilistic death cult where the end goal of the entire religion is to die completely. It is antithetical to life ("too material"), it is antithetical to the human experience ("too worldly"), and it is antithetical to the concept of family ("too many attachments").

If you are following the philosophy of Siddhartha Gautama, you cannot be a good father. The two concepts are irreconcilable with one another.

Goku was a piece of shit dad.

Three things come to mind:

He let his 6 year old son in the hands of Piccolo (who at that point as barely reformed) so he could train him and fight the sayans. Gohan was alone, in the wilderness, without food or shelter... At 6 yo.

During the cell saga he knocked Milk and fucked up to the spirit realm, letting her raise gotten and Gohan alone

After the Bu Saga, Goku basically fucked off and went to train, gotten got lazy, Gohan got cucked.

Bad father all the way.

Dying ain't an excuse chief, the fucker could have come back as a ghost or don't know, ask the dragon balls to allow him to be in earth as a spirit or don't know.

Oh and the last episode it shows gotten and Gohan being lazy, with the excuse that Goku fucks off everyday to train alone or to search for small nigger BU. Vegeta chastise them for becoming lazy.
