To give an honest answer it's probably because the stupidiest people are also the most vocal. This makes it seem like everyone is retarded. The people who aren't stupid usually aren't running around saying stupid things drawing attention to themselves. They're staying clear of those stupid people.

Who the fuck am I kidding? Most people are complete fucking idiots. I had the misfortune of being born semiintelligent. I noticed that most of the people I grew up with invariably fried their brains on booze, drugs, or social media. Add to that all the brainwashing society does and you have a nasty mix of retardation. All of it willfull. I have seen so many people tell me how to live my life only to destroy theirs and the lives of those around them.

People CHOOSE to be stupid. ...and that makes life an absolute Hell for anyone who isn't.
