The same reason why Kamala Harris is "black". You can say and do anything, because there is enormous moral authority in being black. Obama is literally just as much a white man as he is black, but he does his best to cover that uncomfortable detail up. Harris is just as much south Asian as she is black. But how many times does Harris invoke her Indian ancestry? Almost never; Indians don't have nearly as much moral authority as blacks do.

Because there is a dysphemistic connotation to being black just because of everything that has ever happened before. You'd think that he would push hard white but instead he understands that lots of people really get their dicks hard when they think of black anything because it makes them feel slightly less guilty for being part of the group that is pretty and invented all the stuff we use. Thus, in an insane world !!!!BLACK!!!! was the sanist choice. Yay whites. Blacks are not special, except when they are: exhibit A.
