Wipeout is a playstation exclusive series. Its Sci-FY racing about going really fast.

Wipeout XL is in the category of "games that should have been included on the Playstation Classic" although it's not hard to speculate about the reason why it was almost certainly excluded: music rights. The Red Bull logo would also need to be relicensed although that probably could be replaced by a generic logo.

I didn't actually find out until after the game had been out a while that Red Bull was an actual product you could buy in stores.

...and that's it?
And it has a fucking godly soundtrack
I could post more but I'll exercise some restraint

I was seriously considering getting a PS4 for a while JUST to play Omega Collection, I missed this series so badly
This guy TheWalkingFroggy is just inhumanly good at Zone, he's a monster.

I found out this game existed though:

For wipeout fans without PS4s, especially fans of old-school wipeout, this is a fucking must buy. It's basically a spiritual successor/love letter to Wipeout, it has this fucking cool retro low poly look and an original soundtrack that completely lives up to OG Wipeout.

Also my favourite team is FEISAR just because their colour scheme and logo are so fucking slick.

I've heard of this series but never played it. What separates it from, say, F-Zero?

Do you mean the original F-Zero? F-Zero was racing completely on a 2D plain while Wipeout was racing through a 3D trackscape with mindblowing graphics for the early Playstation era. Not that F-Zero wasn't an impressive early showcase of the SNES/Super Famicom's "Mode 7", but Wipeout was a whole other level of "impressive" entirely.

I also think Wipeout (specifically Wipeout XL, which was already out by the time my brother got a Playstation) has aged better than most Playstation racing games since the ships were designed from the ground up around the low polygon counts unlike most automobile racing games (especially pre-Gran Turismo) where they had to simplify real world cars to work as low polygon count models and then use textures that haven't aged at all well to simulate things they couldn't model in 3D like rims and grilles.

I mostly meant the 3D F-Zero games like X and GX.

Wipeout Omega Collection is pretty good. Managed to snag a broken PS4 and fixed it just to play that.

With that context, yeah. But PSP/PS3 port(games?) Are very fast. Omega Collection is pretty fast too.
I disagree, but I respect your opinion. I gotta say I played Omega Collection and F-Zero GX back to back last night because you talking about them made me want to play them and really, Omega seems slower, the acceleration is slower, the turning is far less twitchy.

It varies, what speed class were you playing on?

I remember getting this game in like 96 but it was for pc. Actually never knew it was on playstation. It came with my computer (pentium 166mhz) in like a cd wallet with a bunch of useless NEC bloatware. I thought it was just a cool game that was thrown in as an afterthought so I guess I never appreciated it fully. Must admit though it was comfy cool kind of bouncing and hovering along that track.

I played a lot of Wipeout on the PS1 and Fusion on the PS2

Wipeout HD was chosen as a free PlayStation Store offering as part of Sony's "Welcome Back" program due to the 2011 PlayStation Network outage on the PS3 (along with Infamous).
