Would YouTube still be online 5 years from now? - YouTube's front page has a giant Jimmy Fallon ad on the front of it and I can't close it.

Youtube will still be around as a video platform but *YOU* (meaning ordinary people who don't have giant media conglomerates backing them up) won't be able to upload your own user-generated content any more.
Yeah they need to just rebrand it as Tube. Which sounds dumb in an Idiocracy sort of way. I like it.

Youtube will be around so long as Google is around. The idea of losing their monopoly on such a large video content farm terrified them. It is probably as corporate as it is ever going to get, though.

What’s next for the average user is Internet ID.

It will be around but most user generated contet will be gone. You will likely need to submit your real identification to google (such as a photo of your driver's license) to upload anything and it will have very strict terms. Hopefully competitors will finally be on the scene by then.

This was petitioned for in the UK and got a lot of signatures, yet still fell flat on it's face. What's to say it'll work now, if ever?

Pfffft. If anyone had a brain, they'd read up on that lawsuit Youtube had with Viacom over copyright in 2008. Youtube won by a landslide, and they only gave mercy to Viacom to make a pretty penny.

I'm not too keen on how the law is like right now, but I'm very sure that if someone wanted to make a new Youtube that didn't take any fucking shit from any big wig corporation, I'm sure they could host up everything that's on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+ combined and say "Fuck you!" doing it.

it'll be around for a long time but it's no longer the cultural zeitgeist, twitch and tiktok are. young people aren't looking at it as a viable option to gain a following these days, because it's nearly impossible to get 100 views without spamming your video everywhere or hitting all the bullshit algorithm keywords. meanwhile you can dick around on tiktok for like five minutes and get 1000 views or more, it's obvious what the better option is.

What Youtube loses Google in money, it more than makes up for in influence. Only a fool would drop the world's largest video platform that they have full control over while they still have the funds to support it.

I don't exactly think YouTube would be that bold to remove user generated content all together...YET.... Anyways, I have a hypothesis that YouTube props up a set of silver & golden calves artificially in the wake of 2016-2018. The people who run YouTube realized at some point that average joe content creators would still be needed. The result of this was a new artificially propped up generation of content creators that are generally squeaky clean. YouTube covers costs for microphones, and whatever these contractors need to make videos. These people are also priority creators is what I suspect. It may sound a bit schizo but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

YouTube five years from now will most likely have even worse rules than there are now. It'll still be dominant but much like any Chinese dynasty, it will stagnate and even start declining in the face of fresh blood if Odysee manages to survive. Odysee keeps rising in the alexa rankings or if other sites with innovative technology also pop up. BitChute will most likely be regarded as LiveLeak but with political dissidents unless onsite content is diversified. I doubt it with the way the British government is fucking Ray's site into the dirt. Funny thing, as I was writing this I checked the alexa rankings and for some reason BitChute's the 28th most visited site in Ireland which I find surreal.
