What is up with the Chunks and breeding these new viruses every few years? Is there some secret bunker where they CRISPR them up from political dissidents and Muslims?
Probably related to population density. Wouldn't be surprised if the re-education camps have horrid conditions that allow stuff to spread and mutate. With how polluted China is, that might be a contributor.

Just like SARS, this one moved from animals to people. Trust our CDC has jumped on this and is working on a vaccine. Would also be good to know if Tamiflu would be effective against this particular flu.

Someone asked, "Why China?" Some possible reasons. First, population density. China's about as big as the continental USA but most of the population lives in the eastern part of the country. China also has a ton of large (multi-million population) cities.

But you still have a lot of small villages, especially in the country, where people and animals regularly come into close contact. Good way for a virus to jump from animal to human. The Chinese also have X number of concentration/labor camps. Would expect living conditions in those camps to be very crowded, and medical attention cursory - another easy way to ensure the spread of disease.

Biggest challenge - catching everyone coming out of China who may be infected with the disease. USA/Japan/ROK/Russia and the other developed countries are screening now, have ability to put sick traveler in quarantine immediately before getting out into society. But Chinese travel all over, and you can be sure certain African/Middle Eastern countries cannot carry out such screening/quarantine. Scary scenario....ill travelers get into Africa, spreads virus, virus mutates, possibly multiple times. That would be a mess like Ebola, if not worse.

but if it only wipes out China and Africa is it really a humanitarian crisis?
