XBOX filled the void that SEGA left behind after Sega left the console market in March 2001. In November 2001, Microsoft took a gamble and joined this very exclusive industry, competing with Sony and Nintendo.
The original XBOX was a giant heap of shit even if the games were okay. It proved that online gaming was the future.
The XBOX 360 in 2005 further expanded from the original, and it cemented the Xbox brand in the gaming industry. The 360 arguably was probably the best Xbox console of the lineup. The games were solid, the features of the console were commendable but many weak points like shit backwards compatibility and the Red Ring of Death were major weak points of the 360
Then in 2013, Xbox fucks up big time with the Xbox One. Forced DRM initially gave the Japanese brand Sony the edge over Microsoft. Not to mention the horrible lack of exclusives.
Now we’re in the fourth XBOX console - the Xbox Series X/S. Microsoft learned a lot from the Xbox One’s fuck ups and are now acquiring new studios and major gaming firms like Activision and Besthesda, who already have their own massive catalogues of franchises like Call of Duty, Fallout, DOOM, among others. Game Pass is cool, and the console has nice nifty features that is forcing Sony to respond accordingly. Also XBOX is backwards compatible with XBOX, XBOX 360 and One games. Nice.
I own a Series X. It’s my first XBOX console and so far. I like it. It does have its flaws. Lack of engaging exclusives, is one, the usage of AA batteries is another, and the controller whilst comfy isn’t as innovative as the PS5 admittedly.
