A surprising amount of ya books now are mostly about asian girls (for some reason) fantasy with a 'strong female protaganist' or softcore yaoi books. And the dozen or so fairytale retellings that tend to be written every so month or so.

I don't know when this trend will end. We might be looking at a couple of years of this.

I think it will probably be more than a couple of years. And they're probably trying to appeal to Asian markets because that's where the money is, but I don't think they're going to capture it. I read a couple of webtoons and in Korea, at least, the trend of stories is heavily into isekai - which "revolves around a normal person from Earth being transported to, reborn or otherwise trapped in a parallel universe, fantasy world or virtual world." Either that or aristocratic worlds where a female has to maneuver around society to become Queen/Empress while the Prince falls in love with her, etc.

They're massively popular and often trashy, but the stories are still pretty typical and shockingly, normal. Girl meets boy. Boy falls in love. Girl spends about 500 chapters questioning if she's falling in love. Someone evil tries to get rid of them. They triumph and marry.

There's no politics that aren't created for the world, no TRANS RIGHTS and shit, no AMERIKKKA. If you want the gay shit, you get into a BL comic. Otherwise, most are heterosexual stories with smart females and strong males. All which western publishing is deciding is bad.

I can say for myself that when I go to the bookstore, I take photos of the bookshelves then go home and search up every one that looks interesting on goodreads. I check the tags to see if there's "YA", "LGBT", "Ownvoices" and shit tags on it, and if there is I cross it off my list. It's a pain in the ass to do, but I use books as escapism like a lot of people and I don't need to read another Fantasy novel about how gay/black people are oppressed because 'humans are the real monsters' and 'orange man bad'. If I want to be challenged, I'll read non-fiction war and history books. Not badly done Fanfiction by middle-aged single women who get off to teenage boys fucking.

Two theories
  • Writers are going all in with the Kpop & Anime craze the english speaking world has, or are weebs themselves.
  • Asians, particularly east asians with Pale White Skin (tm), are the closest to White westerner without going too ethnic. A white gal writing a book about asians is going to get less scrutiny from the asian community (its smaller and most aren't as active in SJW politics on twitter) than they would the larger black and hispanic communities, and asians are white people when the wokesters need them to be anyway. Besides, I'm sure there's some lingering "but not too ethnic" in there as well.
The softcore yaoi books don't surprise me, just depress me. The 2000s are over and the teens and twentiesomethings that ruled ff.net and livejournal moved on to making you pay for their terrible sappy melodrama instead.

Which is super ironic when many of the asian webtoons/webnovels/isekai I've seen have fucking EUROPEAN inspired settings and European names and obviously white cast of characters(omg the asians were the nahzees all along!!1!)
It makes me laugh to see the european style aesthetic on asian media while I see the wokest westerners keep shitting on european culture or chimp out if a cast is 100% whytopipo.
I'm really interested to read/watch a white character get transported to a fantasy Japan/Korea/china for equal opportunity hilarity. (Although the creative commissars might try to cancel it but fuck them)
Anyway, here's some ideas I've come up with, please steal it because I ain't good at writing:
  • Three random Nordics get "isekai'd" into fantasy warring states period Japan. Instead of involving themselves with the fantasy Japs, they do all they can to hide their appearances (pretending to be blind, covering their light colored hair with hats/cloth etc.) and stay low as much as possible while surviving the Japanese wilderness (filled with yokai and shit). The comedy is the whiteys getting culture shock while also giving the fantasy Japs culture shock. Introduce sauna culture, perkele.
  • If you know about the chink cultivation genre, you can have a calm and pacifist Russian getting isekai'd into a super aggressive and violent xianxia novel (kungfu with ki powers and shit). Also the ruskie doesn't fight anyone but convinces the main characters in the novel to train into being OP Mary Sues while he watches in the side lines with popcorn
  • For romance/girl pandering, have a survivalist gun owning murrican woman exploring fantasy medieval Korea and meeting a high ranking general or prince.
  • Bonus points if any of these ideas end with the main characters going back to their world (make it dramatic and sad)
  • More bonus points if the locals find them super weird and the love interests take a long time to like the MCs (slow burn)

what's "aphobia"?
It means that you don't listen to attention whores.

Honestly, I'll be shocked if there's not a manga out there about General Matthew C. Perry actually being an isekai'd man who somehow managed to bullshit/talk his way into the military and make history in opening up Japan to the West. Or that there's not more isekais about famous people like (Vision of Escaflowne spoilers) Isaac Newton, who was isekai'd into Gaea on his deathbed and because the people of Gaea were living in poor conditions barely living off the land, he helped them become more prosperous by introducing technology to them so they could enter the industrial age. He only went insane because he discovered Atlantis and became obsessed with it.

I've some more:
  • A xianxia set in a European cultivation setting. Know how asians always present their Europe analogues as elegant and orderly? Well in this case, do the complete opposite. Gwailo barbarians living in medieval squalor, being protected by mystical kungfu knights who fight in the name of the Twelve Disciples of Demonic Cultivator Yeshua. Deliver sword-and-sorcery mixed with filthy feudal aesthetics, and have every stereotype the Chinese have about Europe and white people blown out to oblivion, slapped over some insane xianxia action. All the monsters will be fallen angels and pagan fey. Fill it with more christian references than Evangelion, and isekai an ordinary chinaman into it.
  • Xianxia novel protagonist is reincarnated somewhere in modern Australia, which happens to have lots of cultivation resources. He gets into massive trouble, annoys everyone he meets with incredible property damages, and convinces himself that he's still the hero.

This a post about a Fantasy author (not YA) name Paul Krueger who just got cancelled. Gonna spoil the whole thing, feel free to skip, but my autism demands at least some documentation of how I've been wasting my time. Hopefully this is okay content for this thread otherwise.
Paul Krueger - I'd never heard of this guy until I saw that Chuck Wendig cancelled him.

Wendig-Krueger.PNG
(Can't link or archive; Wendig's twitter is currently protected. I follow him on an account that is nothing but SJWs to avoid getting blocklisted.)

Contact Goodies:
@notlikefreddy - Now deleted Twitter. This hurts. I really wanted to post a copy of his cringepology for not treating wamen like the goddesses they all are. It was a beaut, even by SJW standards.

Facebook - (http://archive.md/fijLW) Not much, TBH. The irony here being his header is a tweet from his agent. Who fired him. Usual SJW posturing beyond that.

GoodReads Author Page - http://archive.md/RIxUS - Typical nothingburger propaganda

https://paul-krueger.com/ - As of yesterday the site had a few things, links to interviews and some pictures. He's baleeted it in the last 24 hours. Damn it. Or maybe his agent ran it and flushed it? Dunno. Not on Wayback that I can find.

LinkedIn - http://archive.md/N5O4C - 99% sure this is him, but...well, let's not go there, so maybe I'm wrong. Asian looking guy named Paul Krueger who graduated from a HS near Chicago at any rate. It also looks like he left his last job at about the same time his most recent book came out.

MythosManual Podcast - http://archive.md/R4snz - I have yet to see that he's been officially cancelled from this, but I'm sure it is coming. I made it about five minutes into one episode. Holy fuck was it bad, but since I'm not into TableTop gaming, what do I know. (Only page/archive is the list of participants.) The podcast's Twitter... https://twitter.com/MythosManual

No Instagram I can see, no email I can find. His Penguin Random House page http://archive.md/ETxal is basically nothing, but that's a helluva lot more than most wannabe authors ever get.

Interview on YouTube...backup below...

Reddit shit: AFAIK he's not a regular user, but he did do an AMA on /r/books.
I’m fantasy author Paul Krueger, writer of STEEL CROW SAGA. Though mighty and fearsome, I am also just. Ask me anything! - http://archive.is/2Wi6j

Article on Tor.com about the AMA:
Highlights from Paul Krueger’s r/Books AMA - http://archive.is/RStnz

There's also a thread on a subreddit I had no idea existed, /r/stupidpol. This is apparently a bunch of lefties who detest IdPol and love them some old school class based Marx. (I had no idea there were any left.) Why they're commenting on this I have no idea, but there it is.

Novelist Paul Krueger is being cancelled by his agent and fellow writers for harassment and bullying, while no concrete accusations have been published - http://archive.is/DSFmz

Note that there's nothing profound or profoundly interesting about any of this. This is just me swimming a in a bathtub of autism. I am a bit miffed the Commies at /r/stupidpol didn't archive his apology, because, well, I didn't, either. Other than that even his Twitter account was just the usual tedious crap of REEEEing about Drumpf.

Update: Took a nap and never went. Dog is depressed. Basically all that's left is to catalog the "accusation(s)" such as they are and the cancelling. Few minor additions to the links, but nothing major. Boring, repetitive shit from Twitter and GoodReads.

After I get back from walking the dog I'll post the cancel stuff from Twitter and GoodReads. Hope I can find the cringepology somewhere. The weird part being, of course, even after all the time I spent poking into this I still have no clear idea what he did wrong. Possibly he stuck his Asian wiener into black vajayjay and bragged about it, possibly he ... well, dunno. Still searching. An ex-g/f (who is definitely white) with a scary blank SSRI stare claimed he was a meanie mcbeany or something, but even she would not get into specifics in her multi-tweet tirade.

Update: I STILL can't find shit in terms of solid accusations. This is mind-bending. I'm not sure what to post because it is all like diarrhea in a dixie cup. (Can you still call it a dixie cup? 🤔) A sort of dribbling liquid I see three things:
  • He stole sammiches
  • He mistreated a crazy eye SSRI stare girlfriend
  • He did something to a whole lot of women none of whom have said anything directly, gone to police or are willing to come forward and speak on their own. Also, they're all women of color, meaning our Philipinx (that's the term his publisher uses, don't blame me) author is implied to be a White Supremacist.
Sammich theft: He stole sandwiches, if what is claimed here is true. What is interesting is that I cannot locate the orignal tweets, only the screenshots attached to this thread:
sammiches.png
And fuck yes I tried to find the original tweets. But this individual lives on twitter, sending hundreds a day. Can't say it was deleted, only that I can't find it. Is there any way to search an account for keywords? Here's the account if somebody wants to hunt for it: https://twitter.com/RinChupeco

Also, when did Jesse Singal start sounding semi-rational? That was kind of a surprise, if my memories of GamerGate are right.

Crazy ex-girlfriend: Judge for yourself. 😐
He was this, that and the other thing. I'm just not gonna say exactly what I mean by any of this. But I talked to his agent and destroyed his career. (NB: if the guy was really a threat, would she publicly state that? Which she did. 🤔)

She also returned from her self-declared "hiatus" for a victory lap.
No self-dealing of any kind here. Nosiree. Thank god wamen are purer than the driven snow and always without ulterior motives.

The Harassment/Stalking/Etc.:
There's literally not one fucking first-hand claim I can find. Not a single one I can see. Nobody is claiming she was touched somewhere inappropriate, ogled or forced into something she didn't want to do. Or saying he sprays the N-word around like a 1990s rapper, or that they were party to/witness of his predilection for dark meat for that matter. Maybe it will all come out eventually, but as of right now, I got nothing.

FWIW, the closest to direct and specific claims apparently came from this account: https://twitter.com/AngrygirLcomics ; now in lockdown so I can't check it. She is also a close associate/BFF to ... none other than the angry ex-gf referenced above. (See her account description.) Doubtless her impartiality is beyond doubt, though. A gentleman could hardly think otherwise.

As noted, this might be a research error on my end, but holy fuck, if the dude is stalking, harassing and/or assaulting, go to the cops. Stop dinking around on Twitter with nebulous, not only unproven but to my mind unprovable claims. Sheesh. Sorry for the rant, but the bloom is kind of off the autism rose here.

I'm gonna channel my inner SJW and declare myself "exhausted" now...after I list a few of the people who have cancelled him. Chuck Wendig, of course, as expected (see above), but beyond that.

First, his agent: (Dongwon Song)
http://www.dongwonsong.com/about - http://archive.is/ErjoC
https://www.morhaimliterary.com/agents - http://archive.vn/U7TzI
https://twitter.com/dongwon/status/1274155996361957376 - http://archive.is/FluBG
Page is not yet updated to remove Krueger's book.

Writers: TBH, most are nobodies who spend all day on Twitter shrieking about Trump. Sykes' book is the only one I'd started of the following names, and it was second rate, and that's generous.

Sam Sykes - https://twitter.com/SamSykesSwears/status/1274235642084339717
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3252210.Sam_Sykes - http://archive.vn/cuSKX

Matt Wallace - https://twitter.com/MattFnWallace/status/1274160640156823552
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/1048153.Matt_Wallace -

Second helping, with a dollop of Internet Tough Guy:

Eh, I'm too ... dunno some sense between bored and nauseous with this at this point. Maybe I'll do more later, maybe not.

I would read this. Bonus points for cheesy lines where the bad guy demands to know who serves/protects/backs up the main character and she says "Colonel Colt."

I would also read this. You definitely had me at Twelve Disciples of Demonic Cultivator Yeshua. Fuck, can we just start Kiwi Publishing Ltd.?

Found it for you! (archive) For future reference yes, you can look for specific keywords on Twitter, just search
"(from:accountname) keywords". E.g. (from:RinChupeco) white popular author

You know what, fuck it. We should all collab and ghostwrite something like this.
when did Jesse Singal start sounding semi-rational?
He's actually been somewhat reasonable lately. IDK what he did during GamerGate but he's been exposing the writing and publishing community for this shit for a couple years now at least.

Oh, no, that was exactly what I was refering to: its more whitey is getting in on it now too I meant. Sorry that was unclear!
I should know I'm a flithy fucking american fujo myself

It's not even really gay shit, though. It's the fetishizing of gay men by straight women. Yaoi has absolutely nothing to do with actual gay people and is marketed to straight women. The actual gay equivalent is bara, so much less commonly seen outside of its target audience that I had to look it up. Also its fans aren't repulsive shitbags who fuck up everything they touch, so they aren't as notorious.

The only problem with bara is that 40-60% of them are furries but that's another thread.

I knew gay males who enjoy reading fujoshi stuff on Ao3 since they like the emotional aspect of it that you can't find in straight up dicking porn. I wonder how much of the fujo stuff appeals to teen gays today?

Like many things, the fandom is much worse than the content itself.

Fujos have stalked and harassed the girlfriends of boy-band members because they really wanted those boy-band members to fuck each other and thought the girls were the only thing getting in the way of that.

Anywho, here's a thing I found. I apologize for the censoring, I came across this on Imgur and can't find the original source. Here's a sampling of adults whose only reading experience is in YA:

Is it odd that I had never heard of this novel five minutes ago, but now almost hate it by proxy?

Goodreads' search function is so borked there's no way to get to a comment written in April that I can see. If We Were Villains. Sort it by most recent/text only and you can only get back to some time in May. Did find the review (from 2018) by the one commenter without her name blanked out,Carrie (brightbeautifulthings)'s Reviews > If We Were Villains . Surprisingly reasonable a review as these things go, but there seems to be no way to get to the comments users leave on other account's reviews.

TBF the characters were apparently all seniors in college, so technically they weren't young adults, however the book read thematically. The sort of thing the New Adult label was created to cover, though it appears it didn't really catch on as a term.

Someday somebody will explain to me in a way that makes sense how sticking your penis up another man's bum automatically makes you irresistible to females of a certain sort. FWIW as best I can tell the males doing and receiving said sticking seem as confused about this matter as everyone else. Hopefully this doesn't spring from the same place mentally women writing letters to serial killers in prison does, but who knows?

I sort of see it as part “ew I’m not reading those Harlequin books my mom did” and part “the two falling in love don’t involve a girl, so less of a threat to me” and part “ooh two of the sex I like staring at getting it on”(i.e. the reason guys like watching lesbian porn before the trans shit started).

My theory is that they all just want it in the ass real hard, but were "explained" how women aren't supposed to. That is why yaoiery leads to troon-outs, too.
