They aren't satisfied with short, to the point apologies but also get the pitchforks out over a long-winded tedious apology. They bitch about "how dare the author bring up that she already had a sensitivity reader" even though "what the fuck why didn't the author have a sensitivity reader?" is one of the first questions the mob demands an answer for in these situations. They seem to enjoy being miserable and bitching about something. Scratch that, what they really want is success but since hardly anyone gives a shit about their own YA novels which amount to 'Cinderella but it stars queer pox and is about how much men and whitey suck' the most they can do is sneer and deride anyone too far up the oppression ladder and basically accuse such authors of blocking their success.

Agreed. They just want to publicly shame people they hate. The demand for an apology is to justify it, like it’s the victim’s fault they’re getting publicly shamed. You could probably write the most eloquent, sincere, heartfelt apology and donate all your money to disabled homeless trans POC and it wouldn’t be enough; they want them to go back in time and never do something that bothers them.
I can’t think of a single person who has benefitted from apologizing, but I might be wrong.
